What happens if you stop paying for cloud storage?

You can get 5 GB of OneDrive cloud storage for free through your Microsoft account, and you can return if you unsubscribe. According to Microsoft, you cannot sync any new files as long as you exceed the limit and don’t pay. Existing files will be retained but are read-only. You will also not be able to send or receive emails on Outlook.com or on teams with attachments.
Microsoft gives you six months to decide how to process files in your OneDrive account, and then it “may” (again a word) decides to delete the files you have on your Microsoft server. Once deleted, Microsoft warns that they disappear forever. If you need these files, you need to download them and move them elsewhere (The OneDrive client for Windows and MacOS can help here).
Unlike Google, Microsoft handles its cloud storage and email storage services separately. If you pay $1.99 per month (above the other 100 GB), you can get 15 GB of cloud space for free and 100 GB of space for free. If you exceed the limit, you can’t send or receive emails, so you’ll need to clean your inbox to use it again.
Dropbox
We can’t cover every cloud storage service in this article, but here is one: Dropbox. Dropbox users get 2 GB of storage in the cloud for free, and then the paid plan time is $9.99 per month, 2 tablespoons of space.
If you store more than 2 GB of files in Dropbox and then stop paying, those files won’t happen: they just stay in the cloud like they do and on your sync device. However, you will not be able to add new files, and any changes you make to the files locally will not be synced to the cloud.
Your files also have no expiration date, they will stay as permanently. It is presumably Dropbox wants to encourage users to sign up for another paid plan somewhere online, when you can find it where you left.
You can use the Dropbox client for Windows and MacOS to synchronize files from the cloud to your computer and from there to other locations and backup services. Once files are removed or deleted from the Dropbox folder on your computer, they will also be erased from the cloud.
