What is the fastest mobile network? There is a clear winner.

As long as the industry exists, mobile operators have been competing to provide the largest and fastest mobile networks. Since the 3G era, you can find annual statistics about the speed of big players. Well, testing hasn’t stopped, and operators continue to scale and enhance the network for faster downloads, especially since they’ll soon compete with satellite internet providers like Starlink.

So, what is the fastest mobile network in 2025?

Ookla, the company behind the popular internet testing service Speedtest, has released new statistics on network speeds for the first half of 2025. The new Speedtest connection report contains good news for T-Mobile customers.

T-Mobile has the fastest mobile network

According to Ookla, T-Mobile’s speed is its competition for head and shoulders. Based on download speed, upload speed and other metrics, Ookla assigns a “speed score” to the operator. T-Mobile scored 74.45 until June 2025. The next closest carrier is Verizon with 65.72, while the AT&T scores 63.16. In short, the competition in the first half of 2005 was not particularly close. T-Mobile obviously won. In fact, besides naming T-Mobile, Ookla is crowned T-Mobile with the best overall mobile network and the best 5G network.

Mixable light speed

T-Mobile won according to various metrics, but most importantly its consistency. T-Mobile is the fastest airline in 46 states and Washington, D.C., overall, while Verizon is the fastest in North Dakota. According to Ookla, the results for the remaining four states are “too close to the phone.” AT&T is not the fastest carrier in any state or region of the United States.

T-Mobile also dominates the supremacy of most large cities in the United States, although AT&T ranked first in Chicago, while Verizon Wireless scored the highest in San Francisco.

T-Mobile claims back-to-back victory

So if you are purely interested in speed, T-Mobile will win. However, Verizon has a lot to stream video on its devices for customers who are interested.

AT&T is the fastest ISP

Unfortunately for AT&T customers, the carrier has not won any awards in the latest Ookla rankings. However, AT&T does rank the highest in related categories. In the same report, AT&T fiber networks were generally ranked as the highest Internet service provider. It was also rated as the fastest ISP with the highest median download speed. AT&T also ranks the highest among all ISPs in the “Consumer Emotion” category.

So AT&T does have some advantages for customers who are often connected to WiFi.
