We tried Grok Imagine with AI videos and images: Here’s what we originally thought

Last weekend, XAI released an updated version of the Grok Ios app, which includes a new tool called Grok Imagine, which allows users to quickly create AI images and videos. On X, excited Grok users eagerly share their creations, and XAI founder Elon Musk retweeted the user post.

Grok Imagine now uses Heavy Duty and Premium+ subscribers on the Grok iOS app, as well as Heavy Duty Users on the Android app.

Grok Imagine has the ability to generate AI with text-to-image capabilities and to turn images into short video clips with sound. This way, it’s similar to the new Midjourney AI video tool. Competitor AI companies have AI tools that allow users to generate original videos based on text prompts only, such as VEO 3 from Google 3 and Chatgpt-Maker Openai’s Sora.

Musk praised Grok Imagine on X, calling it a “meme mother cloud.” He also teased the model’s NSFW functionality and said Grok imagined “should be better almost every day.”

Earlier this month, Xai released the company’s latest and smartest model to date, the Grok 4. In our previous tests, Grok lagged behind other popular AI image generators, especially in preventing deep effects.

How to try Grok Imagine

While Grok Imagine was initially launched only in the Grok IOS app, Musk’s frequently forwarded Dogedesigner X account reported that it is now available on Android for SuperGrok Heavy users.

Mixable light speed

Grok imagination with mixed testing via iOS apps found it easy to start creating images and videos there.

After opening the Grok app, users should see two tabs at the top of the screen: “Ask” and “Imagine”.

Mashable is still testing Grok Imagine for ourselves, but the initial results seem…good. Like other Grok tools, Grok Imagy appears to lack safeguards that are common in the AI industry. We’ve contacted XAI for comment.

Disclosure: Mashable’s parent company Ziff Davis filed a lawsuit against Openai in April, accusing it of infringing on Ziff Davis’ copyright in training and operating its AI systems.
