The new Waldorf Astoria Helsinki will open later this year

Hilton will open its first Waldorf Astoria property in Finland later this year, marking the introduction of luxury brands to Nordic Europe.
Hilton shares with TPG that the new Waldorf Astoria Helsinki will open at the Maria Hotel after the historic luxury property is renamed. As of now, Hotel Maria is part of the legendary collection of preferred hotels and resorts.
“There has been growing travel demand in the Finnish capital in recent years and we look forward to meeting more travelers’ needs as we open our fourth property in the city,” Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of European Middle East and Africa development at Hilton, said in a statement with TPG. “When we approached 300 luxury hotels [Europe, the Middle East and Africa]signed our first in Nordic, which was great. ”
Currently, the Maria Hotel has 117 rooms (including 38 suites), each with natural wood décor and a calm palette of taupe and cream. The property also features a Nordic-style spa with a traditional Finnish sauna, as well as an on-site bar and a restaurant that celebrates Nordic heritage.
Located in the city’s charming Kruununhaka district, this hotel is within walking distance of Helsinki’s main attractions, including the 19th-century old market hall and the beautiful Esplanadi City Park.
It is not clear when the hotel will become Waldorf Astoria, but it is not expected to close during the transition period.
