I’ve asked many recruiters/companies, but I always get non-answer or useless buzzwords. What would you look for when you graduate without work experience? My answer seems harsh, but I don’t offer BS job search advice.

What if I lose contact with my past employer and reference?

I’ve asked a lot of recruiters and companies, but I always get non-reception or useless buzzwords: “What do you look for when a graduate with no work experience recruits a graduate?” A big smile on my face, right? Because what is implied here is that they don’t get the answer they want to hear. They want to see something and hear something specific in the way of information.

But what I want to tell you is that when I look for entry-level people, I don’t have to do a lot because my work tends to be more of a higher nature. But when I wasn’t experienced, I knew that I had a client in the hedge fund business asking me to find entry-level people, What I’m looking for is a clue. Some clues suggest they are special. Some unique things that make yourself uniquesome of their backgrounds may be related to the role. It doesn’t have to be too much. Maybe it’s their personality. Maybe it’s an internship or their plan.

Yes, my clients – I think when I’m relatively teenager I’ll do two or three searches by these straight lines – my clients might specify universities, degree programs, some small species of backgrounds, they want me to find in someone. It may involve a certain personality type. So I’ve been looking for any clues, anything, because frankly, as an entry-level guy, you have very little to sell. You know, you take many courses and you have obtained undergraduate or master’s degrees from some universities. Great! Do you think you are the only one? No, there are many people with good degrees, good GPA and good internships. So, while your academic advisor may have been telling you all the time, nothing special. There are many great universities in the United States and around the world. Your university may not be special than anyone else, and I can think of obvious exceptions in various fields.

But here’s the point: I’m looking for a clue, anything. So when viewing an entry-level resume, What specific things am I looking for? Anything. A clue. Tell me you are a person, not just another resume on my desk, and say nonsense like other resumes.
