If you fly a few times a year, you know the pain points: quick addition of luggage fees, finally boarding, no shelf space left, and making miles at the speed of a snail. This is where the Delta Skymiles® Gold American Express card can really transform your travel experience. I believe that if you fly an airline at least a few times a year (or have your favorite airline) you should at least get the lowest level credit card of that airline, as it comes with enough allowances to justify the cost and can make your travel experience better.

The Delta Skymiles® Gold American Express card is Delta’s most basic credit card product for those who want to make the airport and flight experience easier but don’t want to pay for the senior year. The card’s annual fee is $150 per year, but it is waived for the first year.
This card provides:
- Earn 50,000 miles of bonus miles after spending $2,000 on a qualified purchase on your new card within the first 6 months of your card member
- 2 times the purchase of Delta
- 2 times the order in US supermarkets and global restaurants/li>
- 1x the point of all other purchases
- Free check bags on Delta flights
- Delta Air Lines lender $200 after you spend $10,000 on purchases during the calendar year
- 15% on Delta flights enjoy reward travel redemption
- Area 5 priority boarding on Delta flights
- $100 Delta Keep Credit
- 20% of the money is available for purchases on qualified aircraft.
- No foreign transaction fees.
Use your delta point
Delta uses dynamic pricing to reward. This means that the number of points required to book a flight is not the set number. Instead, rates vary according to the cash price of the flight. You can also redeem your points as cash at checkout at 1 cent per mile, but I never found good redemptions and only rarely did that. I only do this if I have low points and don’t have enough redemption for flights and want to save on cash prices.
The 15% discount on the reward redemption makes flights more affordable, so make sure to connect your card to your Skymiles account. If your dates are flexible, you can use their rewards calendar to see the best points fares, as mixing and matching your dates can lead to better deals.
Additionally, Delta offers a lot of reward sales, so be aware of them. Thrifty Traveler and Point.me are two good sites that can send you alerts. I found that Delta mileage is the best choice for domestic economy and comfort and redemption in the United States. I never book business or international flights unless there is a sale. The redemption value is terrible.
Is DeltaSkymiles® Gold worth it?
If you fly the Delta twice or three times a year and don’t have an elite status, the Delta Skymiles® Gold American Express card can be paid with the benefits of the free check bag, as each person’s round trip saves up to $70. For a family of four, it’s a potential saving of up to $280 per round trip. With supplemental priority boarding, a 15% bonus discount and occasional statement credit, you will receive a reliable value for a relatively modest annual fee.
The DeltaSkymiles® Gold American Express Card is the best choice for casual to standard Delta flyers. Free check bags alone offset the annual fee, while priority boarding and reward discounts make travel more enjoyable and affordable. Although it does not offer quality privileges like lounge access, it offers plenty of value for its price. If you’re riding in a Delta but aren’t ready for high-cost premium cards yet, this is an easy option.
