Canopy commented by Hilton Cape Town Langklouf

Cape Town is a city-sized, with lots of points hotels, and exciting new hotels have just joined the lineup.

The canopy of Hilton Cape Town Longkloof officially debuted in June under a soft mode for months and offers guests cheerful accommodation, even a restaurant that is itself a destination, the heart of a brick, mixed-use development anchoring the city’s restaurant full of hipster restaurants, bars and bars and shops. The property is listed on our list of the most exciting hotel openings of 2025, so we were excited to peek inside.

Accommodation is divided into several categories, including relatively cheap but spacious suites, so it’s a great option for travelers who still want some biological comfort on a budget.

Shortly after the official opening, we popped up overnight at the hotel, which is something you can expect.

First impression

A gentle doorman waved me as I manipulated the car into the brick yard in front of the hotel. He took me to the parking lot next door and when I pulled into a space he was already standing next to my car, waiting to take my luggage and escort me to the elevator, which would take me to the lobby. Even during our short journey, he managed to convey a sense of excitement that the hotel was officially open, especially since Americans like me have become one of the most common guests.

When I arrived at the lobby, I took a moment to adapt to the vibrant palette around me. The hotel’s interior design draws inspiration from South Africa’s flora, flora and marine life, so I monitor everything from the murals scattered with oversized Protea Blossoms to life-sized giraffe sculptures that stretch through the center of the large staircase to the neck.

I’ve seen light fixtures everywhere, as well as little thieves on shelves around the hall and reception desk. Guests are in various seating vignettes for the lounge, although no one currently has a place on the long dining table in the living room. Instead, everyone seems to be leaning towards the lobby-level restaurant Ongetem for a Friday night cocktail, although my own dinner had to wait.

The check-in took only one minute and surprisingly, I’ve upgraded to Corner Suite due to my Hilton Honor Diamond Elite status. On the way to my accommodation, which included walking through a glass enclosed corridor, carved into a bird-shaped corridor, the receptionist showed me the water station I could fill with indoor bottles and then let me explore my home for the night on my own equipment.

Room

Hilton Cape Town Longkloof has 154 rooms and suites. A large number of accommodation categories include rooms with king or queen beds, city and mountain views, and even suites with their own private outdoor terrace. Mine is one of the latter, the Kings Superior Suite with Mountain View, although the view has to wait until morning as it is already dark outside.

The suite spans over 600 square feet and features a spacious living and dining area where I found a welcome cheese, olives, fig jam and bread waiting for me. The minibar has more local snacks, such as almonds from Babylon Storun, the Cape Town hotel, and a Nespresso machine that will come in handy in the morning.

Bleached wood floors and concrete ceilings bring an industrial feel to the space, and nonetheless it can be set between floor-to-ceiling windows and doors on the patio through the pink, blue and peach tones of the round carpet and curved sofas.

Behind the large sliding doors of the bathroom, the bathroom is decorated with bright black and white tiles, double stone vanity and a glass-walled shower room with Apotheke products on it.

The bedroom passes through another barn-style sliding door, which has the same industrial feel on the other barn-style sliding door, although the white bed is framed through an overhanging frame and whimsical beds, whimsical to the flowers, birds and butterflies of the Cape area.

Beside the bed, an open shelf and a set of drawers form the closet, and next to one of the huge windows is a slender work desk and chairs with a wall-mounted TV.

The next morning, I tempted me to admire the sunrise view of Table Mountain and settled in one of the chairs on the deck with a cup of coffee while planning my day. If I have another night here.

Have a meal

The only restaurant at the hotel is Ongetem, which means “unpopular” in Afrikaans. Famous South African chef Bertus Basson is the one behind the concept, and on the Friday night of my stay, the spongy space was filled with stylish Capetonians, enjoying everything from date nights and business dinners to large groups of friends.

Bazon’s menu highlights South Africa’s bounty and the diversity of Cape Town’s multicultural cultures, and he is his guiding philosophy for becoming “butcher, Baker, cocktail maker”. You might start a Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc or a pre-plant cocktail like I did, like the burning Negroni, topped with orange and sage-infused gin, wild Cape Town Vermouth and Campari and Campari ($5.60), locally captured palm sugar with chili powder, Guava, Guava, avocado and cucumber (cucumber (Cucumber) ($5).

Then, stuff the ground beef ribs in the bones with soy ($10.60), or go straight to the menu section on the menu, paired with aging wood-burning steak, or maybe a rich “Cassoulet” with fuchsia karoo lamb, sausage, sausage and newney tangy gremolata ($16).

My only regret is eating alone so I can’t try more dishes. That said, when I came back for breakfast the next morning, I was hungry again and I could enjoy breakfast for free – including buffet and a carte hot notre, thanks to my Hilton Honor Diamond condition.

The buffet includes home-use sweet and savory pastries, plenty of fresh fruit, cold cuts, juices, cereals and more. As far as my main service is concerned, I have a sour slice of toast, topped with the largest avocado I’ve ever seen, and served with scrambled eggs, nori salt and fuji cream (usually $8). It’s an interesting combination of interesting Japanese flavors, and the almost buttery sweet texture of avocado.

Convenience and service

  • The ground floor gym is open 24/7 and comes with a large number of brand new life jackets and weight equipment.
  • There are several meeting rooms on the second floor in case you do business in the city.
  • Parking was easy and although the hotel listed it as 100 South African rands per day ($6) we were not sued.
  • Every staff I met greeted us warmly, asking about my stay, and seemed eager to show off the new hotel.

Location and logistics

Hilton Cape Town’s canopy is located in Longkloof, a historic area of the more touristy district in the city center, with plenty of bars, cafes and shops on the surrounding streets. The hotel is in a new development that includes office spaces, designer boutiques and galleries, meaning you don’t have to take risks to experience the vitality of the area.

It takes about 30 minutes to get to the hotel from Cape Town International Airport (CPT), and the price on Uber is about $10 to $18. V&A Waterfront is a 20-minute, $4-6 Uber ride, while Table Mountain is relatively close and about the same price.

How much does it cost and how to book

The Hilton Cape Town Longkloof Canopy starts at about $120 or 34,000 Hilton Honors Points. This equates to a value of about 0.35 cents per point, which is much lower than TPG’s August 2025 valuation, so be sure to do math if you’re considering accommodation, as it’s best to save points for a better redemption.

The night I stayed there, I booked a room in the King Room category that started for $130, but due to my Hilton Diamond I was upgraded to a King Premium Suite with Mountain View for $340.

There are accessible rooms in the Kings category that offer 32-inch maneuverability, emergency drawstring, grabbing strips in the bathroom, lowered peep holes in the doors, and audible and visual alerts for those who need them.

Bottom line

The Hilton Cape Town Longkloof’s canopy is not fancy, but an exciting addition to the Cape Town hotel scene due to its affordable price, funky location and excellent restaurants. For those looking for an alternative to the high-priced tourist hotels around the City Bowl, the canopy may just be the solution they’ve been looking for.
