14 years later, New York’s cleanup gallery is about to close

Clearing is a New York-based gallery that provides early contacts to artists such as Korakrit Arunanondchai, Harold Ancart and Marguerite Humeau, which has been closed, marking a 14-year run. The gallery will close its spaces in New York and Los Angeles.
The cleanup is the fourth gallery to close New York in the past month as Blum, Venus and Manhattan and Kasmin, who announced yesterday’s plans to end operations and transition to a new entity called Olney Gleason.
Other businesses have closed over the past year or so, from blue chips like Mitchell-Innes & Nash to mid-sized businesses such as David Lewis, whose dealer of the same name continues to join Hauser & Wirth as senior director.
Clearing’s final show was a solo exhibition of Coco Young and Henry Coulchoder in New York and Los Angeles. Young Show will be closed in June and Curchod Show will be closed in July.
“It’s not an easy decision. Until the end, we hope to turn. However, we have not been moving forward. However, we are no longer shutting down today because we have been unable to master our artists and our artists, our artists, our artists, and our entire community and our entire community.”
Opened in Brooklyn in 2011, the gallery is high-sized and becomes one of the more famous galleries in Bushwick, the neighborhood is in the art space. In the vast space there, it shows a massive video installation by Arunanondchai and Meiem Bennani, huge sculptures of Humeau and Bruno Gironcoli, and paintings by Ancart, who performed 10 solo performances before their defection with David Zwirner. (Ancart is now the roster of the large Gagos.)
From Lili Reynaud-Dewar to Zak Kitnick, from Hugh Hayden to Marina Pinsky to Marina Pinsky, to Jean-Marie Apryaou, to Huma Bhabha, there are many other key artists on display.
The liquidation expanded to Brussels in 2012 and to Los Angeles in 2020. In 2023, Brooklyn was liquidated and its New York operations were moved to Bowery, which operates from the third floor space.
There are potential signs of significant behind-the-scenes changes in 2024 Artnet News Babin and Lodovico Corsini, who helped run the Brussels space, reportedly did not look at the direction of the cleanup of Europe. The gallery then went on to announce: “The American and European entities of the gallery are being separated.” Cosini then took charge of the space in Brussels, now operating under his name.
“We want to thank all the artists who meant this adventure, and we pay tribute to the institutions, curators and collectors that embrace their vision,” Clearing wrote in a statement Thursday. “For our team – past and present – thank you for your dedication and effort. First, cleaning is a shared effort and any success we encounter belongs to everyone.”
