Microsoft is closing its lens PDF scanner app

The company confirmed in a support document that Microsoft is quietly scanning the lens scan app for iOS and Android.

The app formerly known as Office Lens, allows users to easily convert images into PDFs, PowerPoint slideshows, and Excel files, and handle handwriting and printing documents easily. It’s simple, reliable and widely used – but now on chopping blocks. Microsoft plans to officially retire the app on September 15, 2025.

Apple will soon end support for Intel-based Macs

Support will end on November 15, 2025, when footage will be extracted from the App Store and Google Play. Users can still scan until December 15, 2025, but the feature will be disabled after that. Existing scans can remain accessible as long as the application is installed on the device.

Mixable light speed

The move marks the end of an app that has more than 50 million downloads on Google Play and has a nearly 136,000 rating on Apple’s App Store.

Microsoft points the user to Microsoft 365 Copilot, which carries most of the scanning features of the lens. However, Copilot lacks some of the biggest benefits of lenses, including direct savings on Microsoft Suite applications as well as accessibility features such as Read-Aloud Support and Immersive Reader integration.
