Here’s what you need to know about Amex Platinum’s Oura Ring bill credits to help you do just that.

What is Oura Ring?
Oura Ring is a wearable, health-tracking smart ring. Some of the key data it tracks include:
- activity level
- body temperature
- calories burned
- heart rate
- readiness score
- sleep indicators
- step
- pressure balance
Think of an Apple Watch or a Fitbit, but circular. Oura Ring 4 starts at $349. While this credit won’t completely cover the cost of a ring, it can bring your cost to more than half. One significant advantage of the Oura Ring is that you don’t have to charge it as frequently as other wearables—it only needs to be charged every few days.

Using this credit statement is easy.

- First, you need to log into your American Express account and go to the Benefits section under “Memberships.”
- Look for “Oura Ring Credit” and sign up.
- Once registered, visit the Oura Ring website and purchase any ring, then pay with your Platinum Card.
American Express says statement credits should be issued within eight weeks, but some TPG employees have found that they are issued much faster.

Are the Platinum Oura Ring points worth it?
This statement credit is a more niche benefit and may not be available to all card members. First, many people may prefer other forms of wearable devices. If you’re not interested in health data, this credit won’t make any difference.
One of the biggest issues is that many card members may not be able to use this credit organically. Many people may feel that they buy a large ring just because of the benefits it provides. Also, the fact that a credit card won’t cover the full cost of the ring may also scare off some card members, since you’ll still have to pay at least $149 out of pocket.
Additionally, most people probably don’t buy a new Oura ring every year, so they may not be able to use this point every year.
If you don’t think you’ll use the points, you can gift a ring to a friend or family member who is health and fitness conscious.
I hope American Express will expand this credit line in the future to cover the $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year subscription fee required to fully utilize the capabilities of the Oura Ring.
It’s also important to note that this is a shared claim credit, which means authorized users will not receive their own claim credit.
This sole statement credit shouldn’t be a deciding factor in whether you add this card to your wallet, but if you can use it organically, it can help recoup some of the Platinum card’s $895 annual fee (see rates and fees).

For Platinum members who are focused on health and fitness, adding points to their Oura Ring bill is very useful. If you’re interested in tracking your health and fitness metrics, this statement credit may be a great way to help recoup some of your annual fee.
However, it would be ideal if this statement credit could be expanded to cover subscription costs in the future, as this would make it easier for more card members to use it year after year.
