iPhone 17 Rumors: Catch up on specs, cameras, colors and release dates

It’s almost September, and it’s almost the new iPhone season.
Apple’s annual flagship launch is theoretically a few weeks away, so we should stop, sit down, hold our breath and review what we know so far. As always, there have been a lot of leaks and rumors surrounding the iPhone 17 launch over the past year. Some of them are undoubtedly true, while others seem sketchy. That’s how these start.
Let’s not waste time anymore. It’s everything we know, everything we think we know, and everything we don’t know about the iPhone 17 so far.
iPhone, Mac and iPad will get GPT-5 via Apple Intelligence. This is when it happens.
What iPhone 17 models will we get?
First, let’s determine exactly how much iPhone we expect in SETPEMBERM.
Naturally, there will be a basic iPhone 17 model. This is given, as predictable as the night sunlight. All signs point to the iPhone 17 also getting Pro Max Models, which is consistent with Apple Mobile releases from the past few years ago. If the Apple spins from that, it would be a real shock.
That said, this does not mean that surprises or big changes will be wasted this year. Many leaks and rumors point to the ultra-slim model, probably called the iPhone 17 Air. Air can replace the plus-sign model used in the elegant iPhone lineup over the past few years, so instead of getting a larger version of the base model, we’ll get something with our own identity.
We don’t know how big the air will be, but the leak indicates it will be measured between 5 and 6mm thickness. This will make it Apple’s slimest iPhone, which puts it in competition with the recently released Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, a 5.8mm thick device.
iPhone 17 release date
In the last few iPhone launches, Apple has adhered to the “September Second Week” timeframe in its large live announcement event. So September 8 is the week to watch this year, especially Tuesday, September 9.
9to5mac also notes that Apple always puts the official release date of each new iPhone on the Friday of the week after the launch event, so be careful about Friday, September 19 to get the official release date of the phone.
Mixable light speed
On Forbes, journalist David Phelan recently made two predictions about the iPhone 17 release. He also predicted the September 9 announcement, but added that Apple may confirm the date on Tuesday, August 26. Additionally, he predicts that the new iOS 26 update will officially arrive on Monday, September 15 or Tuesday, September 16.
iPhone 17 lineup: specifications
Apparently, we won’t see the full spec sheet for these phones until the second week of September, so it’s not yet certain. But we have a rough idea of what these phones expect.
Let’s start with the monitor. The prolific leaked hockey universe (via 9to5mac) has been reported in July 2024, which will be the approximate display size for each new iPhone:
Perhaps the most exciting rumor (for me at least so far) has emerged these new phones, which are reportedly both the iPhone 17 and 17 Air displays as 120Hz displays at 120Hz. Apple’s high refresh rates have frustratingly limited the high refresh rates of its professional phones for several years, even if budget Android phones like the Pixel 9A have had the feature for years. This will be a massive upgrade from Apple that will make the base and air models more attractive.
It is also expected that the new iPhone will have a new A19 chip inside. As in previous years, the base model may have regular A19 chips, while the Pro and Pro Max models will have more powerful A19 Pro chips to power them. Leaker’s fixed focus numbers to Weibo suggest that the Air model will have an A19 Pro chip instead of a slightly downgraded version of the base A19, which may offer some extra juice on the base iPhone 17.
What about the camera?

Once again, we didn’t know the full, precise camera specifications of the new iPhone until September, but there are some leaks at the moment.
Perhaps the biggest potential development this year is the big selfie cam upgrade for the new iPhone. It sounds like they will have 24MP selfie lenses, up from 12MP on previous models. We have to wait and see how this manifests itself in practice, but, larger numbers are good.
This also sounds a lot like the Pro Models will have a 48MP trio this time. Last year, the telephoto lens was only 12MP, so that could be a big improvement. The last thing to note is that the Air model will be said to have only one rear camera, similar to the old iPhone SE and iPhone 16e models. Unfortunately, there are no ultra-wide or telephoto lenses for aviation users.
iPhone 17 color
Leaker Sonny Dixon recently released some photos of the iPhone 17 virtual model that allegedly show color options for this year’s new model.
This tweet is currently unavailable. It may be loading or being deleted.
Perhaps the most striking thing is the new orange of the professional model, which is definitely striking if nothing else. The Pro model also appears to have regular black, white and dark blue options, options for those who want some exciting.
Strangely, this year’s basic model and air seem to have fewer color options than professional phones. In the photo, the basic model appears in black, white, light blue and pink. Meanwhile, the air is available in black, white, beige and light blue.
What about the iPhone folding?
Rumors say the yet-unnamed foldable iPhone (Tech Reporters) calls it the iPhone Fold, which can quickly go into production, but not in the 2025 release date. Recent rumors suggest Apple’s long-awaited foldable phone launch in 2026, which will be reportedly made using Samsung’s display technology.
So, unless Apple has one Huge Surprisingly, we won’t be able to see a foldable iPhone until the iPhone 18 is launched in 2026.
