Four favorite things about Slovenia Intercontinental and how to stay there with IHG with a bonus point

Slovenia is an undiscovered gem that can breathe among summer crowds in popular cities such as Rome and Paris. As I discovered on my recent trip to Ljubljana, the capital, it is also much cheaper than many parts of Europe.
In fact, Ljubljana lists 13 underrated travel destinations for 2025, and it is also one of the best attractions TPG has visited in 2025. I found it to be one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in Europe.
While you can pay up to $1,000 per night for a large hotel in many European capitals, in many secondary destinations… that’s not the case in Slovenia.
You can book InterContinental in Ljubljana for $164 or 31,000 ihg per night. This is a screaming deal for peak summer dates.
Here are four of my favorite things about Slovenia Intercontinental and how to use IHG to stay there.

Intercontinental is a reward of great value
As I mentioned, you can book InterContinental Ljubljana with a reward points of 31,000 ihg per night during peak season, but I see as low as 29,000 per night. Even during peak summer seasons, the points price rarely exceeds 65,000 points.
The cash rate is also very reasonable, with prices as low as $144 per night.
This could be a free night reward worth up to 40,000 points IHG Reward Prime Minister Credit Card (See rates and fees).

I ended up paying less than $250 a night since I booked the last minute. In July, it was still a steal from a premium European hotel. On top of that, my stay received up to 10,240 IHG bonus points plus a 600 welcome bonus and 3,065 points for using the IHG card to get the fee. According to TPG’s August 2025 valuation, one bonus point for this 13,905 IHG is worth approximately $70. Not too shabby!
The hotel is located in a beautiful city center

When it opens in 2019, intercontinentality is huge news about point and mileage space. It opened up a city’s jewelry to those who own IHG.
This modern hotel is located in a glass-walled skyscraper with 165 rooms and suites.

Just a few steps from the train station, a 10-minute walk to the historic old town (worth a visit).

It is one of the tallest buildings in the country and can be seen from the nearby Hilltop Ljubljana Castle.

The hotel has a modern design and nearly floor-to-ceiling glass windows that offer views of the city.

From the hotel to the gorgeous lake, it’s also a day trip. I arranged a visit with a local tour company called Slovenia.

The rooms in InterContinental Ljubljana are chic

Despite having an IHG Reward Platinum Elite I didn’t upgrade to the hotel suite, but I had a nice big room.
I have a platinum status and just choose a credit card to hold an IHG (no longer open to new applicants).
The card includes some nice privileges, but most importantly, it offers you Platinum Elite Status and free Nighttime Awards, available in low-category attributes (up to 40,000 points).

I have room 1206 in the hotel. This is a tall bedroom with a small bench at the foot of the bed, a separate seating area and a table.

The room features a grey carpet with gold and blue scattered on it. The design touch includes dark wood accents, rich brown curtains, copper pillows and plenty of bio comfort. I have a delicious dish like a chocolate cake.

The small refrigerator has a well-stocked minibar, coffee pods like Nespresso and a teapot.

A large bathroom with lots of marble, shower with wand and rain shower, a separate water closet and a nice soaking tub. Byredo amenities raise the luxury ante.

InterContinental Ljubljana offers high-quality dining and convenience

InterContinental Ljubljana also has great facilities and dining. The B-restaurant occupies most of the 20th floor and enjoys the capital’s huge terrace.

In the morning, a buffet breakfast is provided and a large selection of hot and cold food is provided, and the waiter offers customized eggs and hot and cold coffee drinks. If you book in advance, breakfast is $28.

Dinner is served in the same space, and the city’s lights add a special charm.

I had a multi-course dinner including soup, salad and steak for about $73 and the food was great. I was not surprised to learn that chef Komnen Bakic won the Michelin board from B-restaurant.

Another highlight is the 18th floor gym and spa. The gym has a large selection of excellent modern matrix equipment, including a treadmill and fixed bikes.

The spa features a zero edge pool, a hot tub, a steam room and two saunas. During the summer vacation, children are a little busy with their children, but it is a great way to relax at night.

I am very sad to leave the beautiful countries of Intercontinental Ljubljana and Slovenia. I’m eager to go back and explore more cities and countries.
InterContinental offers incredible value with points or cash, so I highly recommend those who want to use their IHG points.
Excellent service, modern and stylish rooms, abundant amenities and very reasonable prices, which is effortless for anyone looking to spend some time in another (not so crowded and expensive) European capital.
