James Kerwin in vibrant photos, Cuba’s unique architecture shines – huge
In the recent series titled Time paused, James Kerwin explores the elegant and faded exteriors and interiors of Greater Caribbean architecture. A four-week journey in Havana, Cienfuegos and other locations provides British photographers with time to slow down, familiarize themselves with their surroundings, and revisit certain areas to capture them in different lights.
Headquartered in Istanbul, Kerwin is known for its architecture, raising fascination with history and built environments, especially time leaves an indelible trace of structures exposed to elements.
He said Kerwin focused primarily on abandoned buildings, historic interiors and “spaces that tell stories through wear, texture and the way light spreads them.” “My purpose is to preserve the atmosphere of these places before they change, restore or disappear completely.”
Time pause Emphasizing Cuba’s unique architectural landscape, the buildings are in a balance between conservation and decay. “Each image reflects the elasticity of the structure and the transmission of the times they witnessed,” Kwin said, planning to return to Cuba in February, where he will co-photograph.
