DJI OSMO 360 Review: A Strong Start

Price-wise, the standard combination cuts the £410 ($550) launch cost of the Insta360’s comparable bundle, which only adds to the appeal. This package comes with a camera, a battery, a rubber lens cover, a soft carry case, cleaning cloth and USB-C to USB-C cable. For those who want a more complete starter kit, the Adventure Combo costs £540 ($700), and all of the above features along with a selfie stick, magnetic mount, three batteries and charging case.

Although OSMO 360 can be used almost anywhere else, DJI has decided not to launch “through official channels” in the United States, which may be due to tariff situations and ongoing difficulties with the DJI with the U.S. federal government. A DJI spokesman told me that although situations may change in the future, the timeline for the U.S. issuance has no estimated timeline.

Strangely, although inventory may be limited, you can technically buy OSMO 360 like Amazon, Adorama, and B&H. DJI’s Mavic 4 Pro Drone was similarly purchased at a launch retailer a few months ago, but is now out of stock.

Extra large sensor

Back to performance, the OSMO 360’s dual 1/1.1-inch square sensor is its main selling point, so I was curious to see the larger 2.4μm pixels (twice the size of the sensor pixels on the Insta360 x5) and the 10-bit color is the same as the 10-bit color in tricky lighting conditions.

In bright sunlight, the Osmo 360’s lenses are vivid and detailed, with colors popping up, sometimes too much. In my video of riding a bike along the coast, when the machining becomes a little overzealous, the sky turns to the slightly artificial turquoise you can get. Still, the stability is rock solid and the automatic selfie stick removal works perfectly. Shooting at 8K 50 frames in 360 mode (or 4K 120 fps in single-lens mode) gave me enough flexibility to post-firing re-arrangement, and the D-Log M profile stayed well when I graded some clips in POST.
