An ancient penis worm found on the Grand Canyon with a ring of sharp teeth

About 500 million A few years ago, the Grand Canyon was a great ocean where the creatures hidden were a newly discovered penis worm armed with many teeth.

Penis worms are marine creatures with a distinct penis appearance. In today’s world, there are more than 20 known species that live in the world’s oceans, and many extinct species, such as this new discovery. The researchers who proposed the discovery were searching for fossils in the Grand Canyon and named them Kraytdraco Spectatus In honor of the huge hole-digging dragon that appeared in the Star Wars universe. Details of the discovery were published in the journal Science Advances.

The author believes that worms fed with retractable throats can be pushed outward, from the inside out before being shedded, just like an inverted finger. Inside the throat are teeth and teeth.

The researchers tried to imagine how ancient worms might have been fed, assuming along this prolonged nose, it combines strong, sharp teeth and more refined feathers for a two-stage dietary process. The former could have been used to pick up food, such as algae dispersed in the sand where worms live, and the latter filters the food out of the substrate and chews it. But there is only one fossil to see, and there is no worm at work, which is just a hypothesis.

The length of adult specimens is approximately 15 to 20 cm. This is much larger than the penis worm species that survive today, which have undergone miniaturization throughout the millennium and are now no more than 2 to 3 mm.

Although penis worms monopolize the scientists’ attention with their teeth, fossils of other organisms were also found in the same expedition. It is estimated that, before the Cambrian period (about 500 million years ago), experts believe that they are the dawn of complex animal life. These other creatures (early shrimp and mollusks) are very valuable because they suggest what the world’s first predator looks like.
