Frontier launches $69 status match for Southwest, Alaska, JetBlue, Spirit Flyers
Frontier Airlines is making the latest strategies to win customers who often fly with top competitors. And, this offer may be an easy way to upgrade to a brand new first class seat.
Low-cost airlines announced a new status race opportunity on Tuesday for customers with loyal memberships with any of the following operators: Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue and Spirit Airlines.
As long as you have an active loyalty account for any of these four airlines, regardless of the level, you can match Frontier Miles Elite Gold Stucation for a fee of $69. Your identity will last until December 2026 – so it will be beneficial for 16 months.
Knowledge about elite gold from the border mile
Gold is the second of four status levels in Frontier’s loyalty program and offers some benefits to help with flyer skirts, which are some of the most troublesome obstacles for flight budget carriers. Frontier Miles Elite Gold members can bring a full-size carry-on bag on board, and choose a seat even if they choose the cheapest, most exposed fare course.
If the seats are empty, they also have free access to the carrier’s upfront products (guaranteed air seats) within four hours.
Most notably, Gold members will qualify for a free upgrade to Frontier’s new first-class product, which is expected to debut by the end of 2025.

“This is one of the most valuable offers we have ever made,” Jeff Werkheiser, senior director of branding and customer engagement at Frontier, said in a statement. “We invite members of many different airline loyalty programs to experience new boundaries – they can travel economically without sacrificing comfort or quality allowances.”
The border is designed to attract loyal flyers from other operators
Frontier has been driving loyal customers of its top competitors. Earlier this year, Denver-based ultra-low-cost airlines targeted Southwest Airlines’ fast rewards loyalists, with status-based match offers (customers participating in the promotion are not eligible for the promotion).

Over the past year and a half, the airline has revamped its fare products and introduced new pseudo-advanced features like the upfront Plus option in comparison to European-style business class.
The airline now offers companion passes to members who reach senior elite diamonds or elite platinum status.

Border airline status matching
Let’s understand the details of this state matching.
You need to have a flyer account that is frequently used by the Border Mile and prove your elite status in one of four programs:
- Southwest Quick Reward
- Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan
- JetBlue TrueBlue
- Free spirit
Once you pay $69, Frontier expects to handle your upgrade to gold within 24 to 48 hours.
The promotion lasts until September 9.
If you have an existing booking from an airline and have paid for it such as a seat or an additional item you carry with you (things that can be commensurate with Frontier’s golden status), the airline will no Return these purchases – but the status benefits will apply in addition to these pre-sale items.

Is the border situation matching worth it?
If you’re driving an airline (or think you can be above next year) and have a Southwest, Alaska, Jet Blue or Spiritual status, there’s little downside to choosing this border to upgrade the promotion.
While there is a $69 admission fee, status benefits may pay for this on a trip given how much border fees are available for bags and seats on certain flights. Also, remember that there is no challenge in this status matching – meaning that there is no need for a certain amount, spending a certain amount or carrying a common brand of credit card to obtain or maintain the status.
