If you frequently ride in the Delta and want to earn elite status while enjoying travel allowances over the Gold Card but don’t want to pay the high fees of your reserves, the Delta Skymiles® Platinum American Express card may be the best for you. This is an increase in fees and benefits every year, giving you the tools to reach medals faster, plus points that offset travel costs.

Here is my comment on the card!

DeltaSkymiles®PlatinumAmerican Express Card Overview

The annual fee for the Delta Skymiles® Platinum American Express card is $350. This is pretty high annual fee for many people, but I’m going to say that if you fly the airlines enough to reach their golden state, you’ll definitely hope this card outperforms their other cards as it will bring you a lot of benefits and make your Delta flight experience better.

This card provides:

  • During the first 6 months of your card membership, you earned a bonus of 60,000 miles after spending $3,000 on your new card.
  • 3x miles of hotel purchases
  • 2 times the miles of restaurants worldwide, including takeaway and delivery in the United States, as well as supermarkets in the United States.
  • 1x the point of all other purchases
  • After renewing the card, select the partner certificate on the main cabin round-trip flight of the destination once a year.
  • $2,500MEDALLION® Qualifications Dollars with MQD Headstart Each Medal Qualification Year
  • Buy $20 per MQD on your Delta Skymiles® Platinum American Express card with MQD Boost to get closer to the year of the next medal.
  • The Global Entry Application Fee for every 4 years or $120 for every 4 years is a credit limit of TSAPRECHECK® (officially registered provider through TSA) for every 4.5 years of age apply for every 4.5 years of age.
  • 15% on Delta flights enjoy reward travel redemption
  • $120 RESY Credit
  • $120 ride electricity charge
  • Free check bag

How to redeem Skymiles in the Delta

Delta uses dynamic pricing to reward. This means that the number of points required to book a flight is not the set number. Instead, rates vary according to the cash price of the flight. You can also redeem your points as cash at checkout at 1 cent per mile, but I never found good redemptions and only rarely did that. I only do this if I have low points and don’t have enough redemption for flights and want to save on cash prices.

The 15% discount on the reward redemption makes flights more affordable, so make sure to connect your card to your Skymiles account. If your dates are flexible, you can use their rewards calendar to see the best points fares, as mixing and matching your dates can lead to better deals.

Additionally, Delta offers a lot of reward sales, so be aware of them. Thrifty Traveler and Point.me are two good sites that can send you alerts. I found that Delta mileage is the best choice for domestic economy and comfort and redemption in the United States. I never book business or international flights unless there is a sale. The redemption value is terrible.

Is Delta Skymiles Platinum worth it?

For regular Delta flyers designed to obtain medal status, the Delta Skymiles® Platinum American Express card is a clear upgrade from the gold card. The companion certificate alone offsets the annual fee. Coupled with TSA Precheck credit, higher revenue rates and MQD improvements, declared credit and a 15% discount, the card itself pays. I am a big fan of this person. I own a business version of it because I have personal use, because I’m heavy, but if not, however, please get this platinum card.

Pros and cons

advantage:

  • Yearly companion certificate
  • MQD earns through card spending
  • Higher revenue from delta and hotel purchases
  • TSA Precheck/Global Entry Credit
  • Free shipping bags for you and your companions
  • 15% Reward Flights

shortcoming:

  • The higher annual fee is $350
  • No Sky Club lounge access
  • Companion certificate is only domestic main cabin

***

The Delta Skymiles® Platinum American Express card is best for travelers who often ride in the Delta and are chasing or keeping a medal. Between companion certificates, free check bags, and the ability to earn MQDs on expenses, it offers enough privileges to justify the higher fees of frequent flyers. However, if you want lounge access or premium upgrades, you may want to check out the DeltaSkymiles® Reserve American Express card.
