Past performance cannot guarantee future job search results

Three mistakes that people think are so expensive.

I’m Jeff Altman, a big hunter. I am the head coach of Jobsearch.community. I thought I would make a video this morning. When I recorded it, it was Monday.

This is some stupid job search mistakes people make. Let me start with a big guy. That is, their behavior seems to be a guarantee of future outcomes.

(0:30 – 1:36)
You know, in the mutual fund industry, they always say that past performance does not guarantee future returns. But job seekers, especially senior professionals, are always like, hey, last time it was easy. It’s easy.

It will be easy next time. I don’t need to worry. Usually when they come to me, they have been out of work for a while.

They have fixed their toes several times. The result is ultimately because they don’t get the desired result. Now, I’m cleaning it out there.

So, you know, the first stupid mistake was that it was easy last time. It will be easy next time. Wrong.

It doesn’t work. In the process, people have become so addicted to their work and career that they do not maintain the network. They think they can communicate in their time, we should say, anxiety, job search, despair and unemployment.

(1:36 – 1:55)
Until then, the Internet is really all of this stuff that can put you in someone’s vision, someone’s thinking process when someone shows up. This is someone’s friend. It’s friendly with someone.

(1:55 – 2:54)
This means having lunch with them occasionally, or calling them. It also involves helping them because it shouldn’t be one-way streets, right? So, this is another stupid mistake people make. I’ll just give you one today.

That said, by not following my advice and preparing an update for your resume every three to four months, suddenly your needs develop into having to change jobs and you haven’t really recorded it. The result is you sitting there, what did I do two years ago? What success have I achieved? You just don’t remember. So, don’t update your resume regularly, not I’m asking you to send it anywhere, but use it for the time you need it.

(2:54 – 3:18)
So even if you don’t do it once in your resume, every three or four months, sitting on your computer or tablet and just writing down your work. And, if you start to notice no real achievement, trust me, and management will eventually notice that. And you have to need it. . . You need to start kicking it a little bit to get the result because think about it.

(3:18 – 4:16)
If you do nothing, then if you don’t have any advocates during that time, then why should they keep you if you can’t do anything about your achievements? So start thinking about your achievements because when it comes to selling yourself and your credentials, they want to hear what you do for this employer, what you can do for them.
