These are the best airports in North America according to JD Power’s 2025 rankings

Travelers may face frustrations with high fares, full flights and dramatic changes in the airline’s business model, but at least part of the journey is better than ever: the airport.

This is according to a new JD Power report that found that consumer satisfaction with North American airports is improving, while scores have increased last year. In 1000 points, overall satisfaction with the “large” airport (JD Power defined as 33 million or more passengers per year) increased by 8 points. Overall satisfaction for “large” airports with 10 million to 32.9 million passengers per year increased by 15 points, while satisfaction with “medium” airports (aircraft with 4.5 million to 9.9 million passengers per year) rose by 10 points.

Despite the improvement in scores, there are still signs of consistency in the company’s 2025 North American Airport Satisfaction Study. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California and Indianapolis International Airport (IND) have led their respective airport categories for the second consecutive year.

In the “large” airport category, MSP ranked first with 660 points (actually down 11 points from 2024). Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) ranked second with 649 points, while Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) ranked third with 634 points.

For the fourth consecutive year, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) completed its last place, despite a score of 565, an increase of 13 points from last year.

SNA leads the “large” category with 730 points for the second consecutive year, with Tampa International Airport (TPA) ranked second and Dallas Love Stadium (DAL) ranked third.

In the “Medium” category, IND led the way for the fourth consecutive year. California’s Ontario International Airport (ONT) ranked second, while Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) ranked third.

The results are based on a survey of 30,439 U.S. and Canadian travelers who passed at least one North American airport between July 2024 and July 2025. As in previous years, the survey focused on seven key factors: easy travel through the airport, experience with airports, airports, terminal facilities, airport staff, airport staff, airport staff, departure from the airport, on the ground, food and retail experience, or travel to the airport or travel, or experience or travel at the airport.

“This increase in passenger satisfaction is huge due to the recent improvements to many airport facilities themselves. Some large capital improvement projects have been completed and more capital improvement projects are underway,” said Michael Taylor, Director of Travel, Hospitality and Retail at JD Power.

JD Power found that other larger factors that improve scores are the availability of raw and powerful dining and retail options. Satisfaction with food, beverage and retail has increased by 14 points from last year, mainly due to what JD Power calls “real local” brands that create “real geographic locations.”

Taylor added: “For decades, the trend to bring unique local flavors to the passenger experience has had a significant impact on passenger satisfaction, which has therefore positively impacted the airport experience.”
