Photographer Frédéric Georges’ “Anba Solèy Lakay”

A series introduces the warmth and resilience of photographer and director Frédéric Georges to Hatian culture. Georges was born in Port Haiti, where Georges attended St. John’s University in New York, where he specialized in photography and directing. His work covers personal projects as well as fashion and editorial assignments, reflecting sensitivity to the people, places and stories he meets. George is interested in capturing the intensity of quiet, exploring the passage of time and moments of ephemeral emotions.
“Anba Solèy Lakay (In the Sun at Home): The Portrait of Haiti” is an ongoing project that attempts to show Haiti limited narrative often displayed by the media. Through his lens, George focuses on the daily life, scenery and moments that define the unique character of the country. The work also provides an intimate perspective rooted in George’s personal experience and memories of the family. Each image is a celebration of people and places that are often overlooked in beauty, complexity and humanity. The series invites viewers to see Haiti as what George knows, “a spirit of depth, life and enduring.”
