Photos of Stephen Shore Early work It’s really early. In 1960, when he was 13 and in 1965, he took many photos. But their considerations and sophistication are like those shot in his later years. How did he get this aesthetic fluency as a teenager? In other words: Why can he return to these images without being rejected by any amateur hint?
He wrote the “prehistoric” of the photos at the end of “Reading Books”. In it, he tells a very atypical childhood: his sixth birthday gave him a dark room outfit from Kodak ABC, the eighth Richo 35 and a copy of Walker Evans American Photos (1938) 10th. The earliest photo in the book was Dexter, who was taking pictures of the boys’ sports team. Shore describes this with seemingly simple expressions – as a “photograph of a photographer’s photo taken” – dedicated to the meta-narrative of the image, where Shore’s shadow is located on the back of his mentor. A little symbolically, Dexter raised his fingers to those who stood behind.
One way to evaluate the coast’s early mastery of technology was to seek clues in his description of the photographic equipment. “A camera, which points not to the world, but to the frame,” he wrote. He gathers this insight from the “classicism” of Evans’s work and quickly forms his early photographs with a combination of intuition and skill.
