Jeff Koons returns to Gagosian after leaving four years ago

Gagosian will once again represent Jeff Koons, a star sculptor who left the giant-Mega-Gallery to join Pace’s roster in 2021.
Wednesday’s announcement completed the return to the May start, with the communiqué being started by Gagosian’s solo speech at Frieze New York Fair. In Frieze, Koons displays three sculptures from his Hulk Elvis series. All three works are from the artist’s personal collection.
He was also represented by David Zwirner in 2021 when Koons left Gagosian, and this time he didn’t seem to be rejoining. At that time, he listed the desire for “environmental change”.
The switch seems to be short-lived. Artnet NewsKenny Schachter reported last year that Koons broke up with Pace after the new series Meissen-inspired sculptures, and the support for the gallery proved too high. Schachter reported that Pace invited investors to join the joint venture, which dropped $50 million to $100 million in the joint venture. However, when additional funds are needed to complete manufacturing, investors refuse. Koons quickly left Pace, Shachter said.
In recent years, Koons’ key stars have gradually disappeared, and his market stars have gradually weakened. Although his sculptures rabbit (1986) remains the most expensive work of a living artist at auction, earning $91.1 million in 2019, and his sales have been greatly reduced in the past few years. but Artnet News The 2024 report said that some powerful collectors and dealers are working to help change this.
Gagosian has held 13 exhibitions in locations in Beverly Hills, London, Hong Kong and New York during his twenty years of representation. Although the gallery did not announce its next exhibition with the artist in a press release, there are 20 locations around the world, but it is certain that one will soon be there.
