The characters in SergiuCiochinǎ’s paintings cradle in the garden, sitting with flowers, falling asleep, dreaming in the garden, interacting in poignant moments of loneliness and reverence. Artist’s Blue series It is his own visual collection of memories, thoughts and emotions, and he elaborates on the atmospheric, sometimes dreamy canvases.
“To me, blue is the color of gentle melancholy, deep calm and hidden hope,” Ciochinǎ said. Titles such as “Don’t Evil Me” and “You Are Your Own Home” introduce our deep desire for connection and belonging. They also suggest the nature of personality in the context of our relationship with others and navigate through a series of fantastic scenes.
Ciochinǎ also creates glowing landscapes that capture building facades on sunrise or sunrise or sun-drenched streets in historic European towns. Time and light also play a major role in his portrayal of anonymous characters, and can also illuminate their skin with glowing details or place them in the shadows of floral arrangements or emerald gardens.
The positions and blue tones of these characters nodded slightly to Pablo Picasso’s blue period around 1901-04, when the artist’s early, more realistic descriptions of people and family spaces were largely presented in blue and blue tones to emphasize themes of despair and turbulence. For Ciochinǎ, dreams and emotions center on his mysterious works.
“I want each canvas to convey a breath, a calm vibration, almost a musical,” the artist said. “For me, the blue becomes the meeting space between reality and dreams, memory and present, which is a bridge that invites the audience to stop and think.”
Ciochinǎ is currently preparing for a solo exhibition in Paris next year, which includes the expansion of work Blue series. See more information on his website and follow the updates on Instagram.
