It has [redacted] I’m still excited about the back-to-school shopping season since I’ve prepared for a new semester myself. That’s because I’m working part of Mashable needs to hunt down great laptop deals – after Black Friday, it’s when I see the best discounts. Our favorite college student favorite laptops are now on sale, including the popular MacBooks.
Even Apple Stores have joined the competition. As part of its back-to-school sale, one of its rare direct savings activities, every MacBook purchased there by September 30 comes with a $100 discount and free Apple accessories worth up to $199.
To help you start the semester with the right device, I have compiled a list of the best back-to-school laptop deals on MacBooks, Windows laptops and Chromebooks that will be updated throughout the season; discounts should be adequate until Labor Day. Notable: The latest 13-inch MacBook Air is still Amazon is under $800; a clear Asus laptop dropped $1,000; our favorite Chromebook has a smaller configuration at just $379.

Why we like it
Apple’s new M4 MacBook Air is a winner of the choice award and one of the easiest laptops to recommend for students. It is gorgeous, powerful, portable, quiet and super competitive in price. Even better, it is also very easy to find for sale. For back-to-school and college shoppers, Amazon and Best Buy are priced at $799, exceeding the $50 Golden Day discount. (The 15-inch version is also a $200 discount.)
For comparison, the Apple Store offers a $100 student discount on two sizes on the M4 MacBook Air. However, it can pick your free accessories, worth up to $199: ARC, ANC, AirPods Pro 2, Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad or Magic Keyboard with a numeric keypad. Some shoppers will prefer the $200 continuous discount on Amazon and Best Buy, but if you go to the Apple Store Freebie route, you can technically save more.

The best Windows laptop deals
Why we like it
This 14-inch Asus laptop is incredible: you get a nice OLED touchscreen display, a high-end Intel Core Ultra 9 Series 2 processor, 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD for just $900. It’s enough power, memory and storage space to allow you to complete four years of college. Plus, it’s only 0.59 inches thin and 2.82 pounds, which is easy to do.

Why we like it
Our favorite Chromebook right now is an upgraded version of this 14-inch Lenovo hybrid that combines solid performance and long battery life. This is an exclusive product from Costco and is not sold yet, but the smaller version of Best Buy (usually the same price) enjoys a 37% discount. It has a downgraded Intel Core i3 CPU and half the storage capacity, but has a great 2-in-1 design with a 2K touchscreen.
