Why American Airlines Flyer Should Be aware of Alaska Airlines’ Atmos Reward Program

Don’t let the region-named airlines fool you. You don’t have to live in the Pacific Northwest (or Hawaii) to find great value in Alaska Airlines and Hawaii Airlines’ new joint loyalty program, Atmos Rewards.

Take it from me. I live in South Carolina and most often fly out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) or Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP). Since CLT is my nearest major airport, I often take American Airlines, which runs a large hub there.

Given where I live and how I fly, the beginners’ award travelers may not understand why the Atmos rewards program in Alaska and Hawaii is so valuable to me.

I’ll let you know the secret: Atmos Rewards has some of the best reward rates on American Airlines flights, thanks to its OneWorld Alliance Partnership. If you are an American Airlines traveler and haven’t sneaked into the Atmos rewards yet, allow me to share some tips on why you absolutely should.

How do I redeem points for an atmospheric reward US flight

While many loyalty programs have turned to dynamic pricing and watched redemption rates soar, Atmos Rewards retained the popular reward list in the former Alaska Airlines Mileage Program. So, you can find great value when looking for rewards from partner airlines.

Additionally, TPG’s September 2025 valuation DEEM ATMOS reward points are worth 1.5 cents, one of the highest valuations for the airline loyalty program.

As someone who likes to extend my points multiple redemptions, I often redeem atmospheric reward economy tickets to visit friends who live in New York City and Louisville, Kentucky.

I often find reward supplies for flying American Airlines from CLT to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) or Louisville Mohammed Ali International Airport (SDF).

But you are not limited to these cities. You can redeem atmospheric rewards pointing to driving American airlines in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. The reward rate is based on the distance and cabin you choose. You can view the Atmos Rewards rewards table here.

How to Earn Atmos Reward Points

Of course, you can earn Atmos reward points by flying on Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines, buying points, or making a purchase with a partner.

I don’t live in any airline that often flies to the US, so I earned my Atmos reward points with my credit card. In my case, I transferred from mine BiltMastercard® (See rates and fees).

Atmos Rewards is a 1:1 transfer partner with Bilt Rewards, and BILT Point is the only transferable currency to work with Atmos Rewards.

You don’t have to own a Bilt Mastercard to earn Bilt points, but I find it easy to make money with a fee card that I can’t use. I mainly use my bilt Mastercard to earn 1 point per dollar of rent (up to 100,000 points in a calendar year). Please note that you need to earn points using BILT Mastercard at least during each statement period (see Rewards and Benefits).

Atmos Rewards will also issue three COMPRANT CONMANT credit cards to earn Atmos reward points. These cards offer privileges when flying with Alaska and Hawaiians, but this article will focus on points in the program.

You don’t have to own a common branded credit card to earn Atmos bonus points, but you can help you collect them faster by adding a credit card to your wallet.

If you want to add an Atmos Rewards account balance, Hawaiian Airlines also offers two credit cards: Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard® and Hawaiian Airlines World Elite Business Mastercard®.

Although Hawaiian Mills isn’t officially integrated with the Atmos Rewards program until October, your Hawaiian mileage is currently transferred to Atmos rewards at a 1:1 ratio; please note that all Hawaiian miles will automatically transition to Atmos reward points on October 1.

Information on Hawaiian Air World Elite Mastercard and Hawaiian Air World Elite Business Mastercard has been independently collected by Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Bottom line

I only flew on Alaska Airlines twice, but I have redeemed the Atmos Reward Loyalty Program (formerly the Alaska Airlines Mileage Program).

I found the rewards of Atmos Bilt Mastercard. Even if you are not riding an Alaska or Hawaiian, it is worth seeing how to earn Atmos reward points for redemption of a trip. In my experience, I have found that Atmos rewards have some of the best redemption rates on routes from many American airlines.

I recommend that any American airline flyer view Atmos Rewards and consider picking up a card that earns Atmos Rewards Points to unlock that value by yourself.
