“Comrades” celebrate our animal friends and colleagues – Huge

“The play between humans and pets, and simply spending time hanging out in peace, brings joy to all participants. Of course, this is the important meaning of companion species.” –Donna Haraway, ‘Companion species manifesto‘
companion is a group exhibition celebrating our closest animal friends and colleagues. Lola Dupre, Debra Broz, Roberto Benavidez, Misato Sano, William Mophos and Nicolas V. Sanchez play their work in the media in the way we share our lives with non-human species.
Each artist translates their furry and feather themes in a unique human way: Dupre and Broz distort any realistic similarities, instead favoring surreal hyperbole, exaggerated fusion, while Benavidez translates a kitten into a celebration form of piñata. Sano similarly dug out a small piece of camphor wood to carve a series of expressive cubs, and then she painted it with paint.
Although their renderings take a more realistic approach, Sanchez and Morpheus use substrates embedded in human life, the former attracting people toward the blank pages of the sketchbook, and the latter searching the streets of St. Paul for the remnants of the building that turned into small jagged canvas boxes.
In this way, these artists will accompany as a bridge between nature and culture. They believe that their companions are both their own creations and both parties are influenced and established by any relationship, while independent characters have huge personalities.
