Photographer Michael Valiquette’s “A Line in the Sand”

A series of fusions border politics, accessibility, confidentiality, and the complexity of human nature by New York photographer Michael Valiquette. Valiquette is a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, book maker and graphic designer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Siena College and works as a graphic designer and photographer at the Center for Experimental Media and Performing Arts at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. For the past two years, Valiquette has been making images in the “divided places” (real and imagined) of Mexico, the United States and Canada.
“Under Mount Cristo Rey, you can stand in the United States and Mexico at the same time, a family of five walks as quickly as possible toward the opening under the train tracks. This is one of the moments I observed while working on the beach…. It’s important to photograph these areas during these unstable split times.”
Michael Valiquette participated in our 2025 Boooooom Art & Photo Awards and was shortlisted for our finalists. Click here to view all our current and upcoming open calls.
