Bird Photographer of the Year 2025 has given lessons on planning and patience – Huge

Canadian photographer Liron Gertsman captured a plan for more than a year and about a week of face-to-face reconnaissance, an accurate timed portrait of a magnificent frigate flying in front-end eclipse. Gertsman’s image is the champion of the Bird Photographer of the Year 2025, which shows the effort and time to document some of the world’s most outstanding birds.
This year’s competition saw more than 33,000 entries from photographers around the world, including three youth categories. At the heart of the competition is at the heart of its mission, it also donated over £5,000 to birds on Brink, a charity that has worked hard to the grassroots to benefit birds.
Categories such as urban birds, best portraits and birds in the environment show the behavior and habitat of various feathered creatures. For example, Steffen Foerster portrays a bloody Southern Giant Oil Company (Steffen Foerster) who is associated with the tube nose becoming increasingly intimate after enjoying a hearty meal. Luca Lorenz focuses on the bead eyes of the tough alpine chough in the middle of a snowstorm in the Swiss Alps. Benoit Henrion peeked at three western barn owls that hid squash in a church in France, while Baiju Patil captured a cattle swallow darted above Indian vibrant marigolds.
Explore the winners gallery on the competition’s website, and you can also purchase top photos of the year in the book of the year published by Princeton University Press. The 2026 competition is now open for entries.
