Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter

EP 3076 In this episode, we unravel the often pieced together methods offered by negotiation execution and reveal how this single error affects your entire career trajectory.

Working with toxic C-kit before it’s too late

Well, let’s dig into a lot of things. Negotiation and execution work. If you’ve ever been to this place, you know the stress is huge. But this is a matter. The way most people approach it is fundamentally flawed. This mistake can have a whole career consequence. So, let’s start with this big problem. When you look C-Suite Rolea senior leadership position, are you just accepting another job with a higher title? The answer is a huge answer. Honestly, thinking that this is probably just one of the biggest mistakes you may make in this way.

So, where do we start? It all starts with a complete change in your mindset. You have to stop thinking like an employee who just asks for work and start thinking like a business partner who is about to enter a brand new joint venture. Trust me, this small change will make everything different. See, executing a role is more than just a simple transaction. This is a long-term business relationship. Think about it. The company is investing in you creating value to drive actual results, and in return, you are investing in your time, reputation and your entire career path. It must be a two-way street.

This mentality completely changes the way you behave. Passive work, they just accept the original term, assuming that this is the last word. But business partners, oh, they see that the first one offers is exactly what it is, A starting point. They believe that each term is agreeable. Which one do you think ended up getting a better deal? So now that you already have this new business partner mindset, how do you actually use it? Well, it first has to be vigilant at that quotation stage. You are not only looking at the salary number. You are looking for clues to tell you the health of this future business relationship. Let’s keep this clear. It’s not just wishful thinking.

For any legal Execute role The initial offer is the beginning of a serious conversation. If a company tries to tell you that this is the end, then, that’s when some serious alarm bells start to ring. These are the big warning signs you must be aware of. one Take it or leave it That’s just screaming inflexible. If they are unwilling to clarify what looks blurry, then you want to know what they might be hiding. And if they don’t want to make a promise in writing, telling you that verbal commitment may not be a commitment at all.

What recruiters are looking for when scanning, and don’t look for it

So, why are there such huge red flags that cannot be negotiated? Just think about it. They are hiring you to create huge value, right? Increase revenue/cost to have a real impact. Your quote should reflect this. So if the company doesn’t even negotiate, it shows that they don’t really value the results they’ve employed you. OK, your mindset is correct. You know what red flags to look for. What’s next?

script. This is your plan of action and a guide to your full confidence in negotiations. Do you know? The script is actually very simple. only Three steps. First, Nothing. You dare not fill the gap yourself. second, Ask for clarification of absolutely everything Because guess what? Any uncertainty that will cause problems later, and that’s where you are not solving the problem now. at last, You verify every promise. You may have heard this old saying, trust but verify. It captures the idea perfectly. Look, it’s not about cynical or negative. It’s about becoming a professional. The best business relationships are certainly built on trust, but this trust is solidified by clear, proven protocols that protect any misunderstandings that you and the company later. OK, all of this has led us to take the most important action throughout the process. This is the last step.

Being an inspector can ensure your new business relationship and make sure there are no annoying surprises waiting for you. Seriously, just stop and think about it. Someone will make you have great hope for a bonus or promotion schedule or the resources you get for your new team. You said, “Great. Let’s pop it into the fare letter.” They hesitated. They are weird about it. Why? Why do they do this? The answer is very simple and very direct. There is only one reason to avoid making a commitment in writing. This way they can maintain the ability to leave it later. Verbal commitment feels good, but it is not binding. A handshake is a nice gesture, but the signature on paper is real.

So that makes our ultimate goal here clear, doesn’t it? Get what you want and get what you deserve in writing. It’s not about your difficulties or pain. It’s about being a smart, cautious business partner. This is the expectation at this level. When you really take this mindset and focus on this script, you’re not only negotiating a better salary. No, you fundamentally changed the entire trajectory of your career. You are laying the foundation for long-term success and important long-term satisfaction. All the hard work and diligence you put in now, it will pay off for several years. It ensures that you feel valuable, respected when starting a new chapter and are completely safe in terms of your transaction. This is indeed the basis for being a happy camper on a long journey. So the next time you face an executive offer, you have the option to make a choice. Will you become a passive job seeker or a competent business partner? What will your next business relationship look like? As they say, the choice is yours.
