JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo is now open – Read TPG’s exclusive interview with GM Chris Clark

Tokyo’s Buzz Hotel scene has a new addition: the JW Marriott Hotel located in the high Manawa portal city, not far from Haneda Airport (HND), a very exciting new option for the Japanese capital Bonvoy Loyalists.

“JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo is the earliest JW Marriott Hotel in the capital and is a flagship property in Japan,” hotel general manager Chris Clark told TPG in an exclusive interview.

“Of the many luxury hotels in Tokyo, we are the only luxury hotel in the reconstruction area of the Gaunahua Gateway City,” he shared. “In this vibrant city, we offer a sanctuary where guests can experience tranquility and peace.”

At the new hotel, guests will find 200 stylish rooms, including 30 suites, with large windows that offer views of Tokyo’s iconic city, while still finding a calm breath from the hustle and bustle within the hotel walls. The interior of the property was designed by the famous Yabu Pushelberg company, and the theme “from darkness to light” is spread throughout the property.

With the concept of well-being cutting-edge and centrality, the new Marriott Hotel will debut the first JW mindfulness floor ever made by the JW brand – where there are 9 mindful rooms, JW spa, JW spa, a swimming pool and a fitness center to help travelers relax and find a sense of peace within, and to be treated with spa or thoughtful workouts.

“I like a lot of places and know the guests will do, too,” Clark said. “But if I had to pick a swimming pool. It’s on the 28th floor adjacent to our spa and has views of the Tokyo Tower overlooking Mount Konahua and some of the temples and shrines in the area, as well as Mount Fuji in the distance,” he said. “It’s a 25-meter lap pool, and these views are really inspiring and exciting when swimming.”

As far as everyone knows, Japan is a place that is not difficult to find food when it comes to restaurant products – Bonvoy Loyalists will be happy to learn that Tokyo’s JW Marriott Hotel Tokyo is no exception. The hotel features seven different bars and restaurants, with dishes including Japanese rotating croissants from Les Cres to avant-garde French-Japanese fusion cuisine from renowned chef Emmanuel Strobant and Saki’s Kazumine Nishida.

“Saki is an avant-garde kappo omakase restaurant supervised by two Michelin star chefs,” Clark explained. “It offers bold and sophisticated dishes that all feature seasonal ingredients that invite guests to discover new flavors and unexpected joy.” His favorite dish in the Omakase-style experience is Ise Ebi or Japanese thorn lobster. “This is a delicious Japanese dish known for its sweet, rich flavor and solid texture.”

Another major selling point, Clark explained, is the hotel’s location in Konahua, noting that it used to be a historic area and was the gateway to ancient Edo, the historical name of Tokyo. Today, though, Gaonahua is a quiet residential area with incredible transportation options to reach the city.

And, for the flying people and those of us who are just addicted to transportation infrastructure, this is probably the best place to take action in Tokyo. “Because we are in Gaunahua, there aren’t many tall buildings on the bay view side, you can watch boats, planes, Shinkansen and cars right away,” Clark said. “It’s a vibrant and calm scene, and time seems to slow down.”

He also quickly mentioned that the hotel is an ideal blend of JW Marriott’s signature service and an unparalleled guesthouse in Japan.

“Japan hospitality or Emozeria is defined by a spirit of anticipated need before guests express themselves with warmth and sincerity. This is very consistent with the philosophy of mindfulness and heartfelt care at JW Marriott Marriott. “For us, hospitality is more than just service – it’s about building a real connection with our guests and creating memorable moments that last for a long time.”

How to book: Over the next six months, the price of the JW Marriott Tokyo is around $580, or starts with Bonvoy points on 908 million islands.
