Director of Perrotin’s London Gallery at Rowena Chiu Apppoint Gallery

Perrotin announced the appointment of Rowena Chiu as the director of the gallery for his New London Operation.

Chiu’s last Art World Post is Director of Museums and Institutional Relations at the Stephen Friedman Gallery in London. She worked there for four years, overseeing agency strategy and development and building relationships with artists including Izumi Kato and Yinka Shonibare. She also manages agency and private sales. Prior to that, Chiu spent six years in Hauser & Wirth in London, Zurich and New York.

Emmanuel Perrotin, who owns the gallery of the same name, also has space in Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Los Angeles. The new, 3,800-square-foot space in London, which opened in March is located at the iconic five-star hotel in Claridge’s in the heart of Mayfair, a relative stone from the channel’s flagship store across the Paris Gallery. Perrotin revealed on Instagram last October that he was opening a store in the UK capital. “It is important to have a gallery in the British capital,” he wrote. “We have a long-term relationship with the British art world and collectors. I have been waiting for the opportunity to set up a gallery under the right conditions. I am delighted to provide our artists with a new exhibition platform and new projects in such a prestigious environment.”

“We are delighted to welcome Rowena to the Perrotin team. Throughout her career, she has become a trusted interlocutor to a trusted artist, gallery and leading institutions. Bringing her twenty years of experience, her appointment will provide new energy to our London Gallery.”

Chui’s first performance on “The Helm” will be a solo exhibition by 2008 Marcel Duchamp Award winner Laurent Grasso, which will open on October 14.

“I have long admired Perodin’s dynamic program and global perspective and am delighted to have worked with the gallery for many years and I am delighted to be part of its talented team,” she said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to provide unparalleled services to its artists and expanding their presence in institutions and collections, especially within the UK.”
