France’s Culture Minister is tried for corruption

French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati will face trials accused of abuse of power and corruption, while she is a member of the European Parliament (MEP), AFP Report Tuesday.
Dati, 59, publicly outlined her ambition to become mayor of Paris in 2026, and was charged in 2019 for skepticism about her auto-manufacturing group Renault-Nissan, the only MEP directly elected to the EU. Dadi denied the allegations.
She was accused of receiving 900,000 euros ($1 million) of attorney fees from a subsidiary of Renault Nissan in the Netherlands from 2010 to 2012, but she did not actually work for it. It allegedly happened during her 10 years as MEP from 2009 to 2019.
French Investigative Magistrate Judge is studying whether she is lobbying the auto giant in the European Parliament, a banned activity. French authorities also reportedly ordered Renalt-Nissan’s 71-year-old former boss Carlos Ghosn to conduct a trial. He fled from Japan to Lebanon to avoid being arrested in hiding in a large box and being smuggled onto a private jet in 2019. Nissan’s board of directors was subsequently rejected by a unanimous decision. Both Japan and France sought his arrest, and like Dadi, he denied all charges against him.
It is reported that the September 29 hearing will be held on the day of the trial.
Art newspaper According to a subsequent source, the trial could be held after the Paris municipal elections, which are scheduled for March 2026. The election will determine the next mayor of the French capital.
