Rove Miles adds Lufthansa Miles & More as transfer partner — why this matters

Rove Miles, a new credit card-free rewards program that lets you earn points on hotels, flights and shopping, has added Lufthansa’s Miles & More loyalty program as its latest transfer partner.

This should catch your attention, because Miles & More opens the door for you to book Lufthansa First Class award seats in advance, before partner programs. Also, so far, such airline loyalty programs have not become widely available via transferable U.S. dollar currency.

That’s why you should consider this increasingly valuable reward product.

What is Rolf Myers?

Rove Miles is a standalone rewards platform (not a credit card) for travelers who want to earn miles on paid hotel stays, flight bookings and everyday purchases through its web portal and browser extension.

When we searched for hotel bookings, Rove Miles offers generous rewards of up to 45 miles per $1 spent, making it one of the most profitable ways to earn miles on paid travel.

You can then choose to redeem your miles via Rove Miles’ own travel portal (possibly also at a reduced rate) or transfer your rewards to a partner program.

This means Rove Miles can complement existing credit card travel platforms you may use, such as Chase Travel℠ and Capital One Travel, as you can mix and match based on which program offers the best rewards on your next paid booking. It’s always a good idea to check prices on multiple platforms to make sure you don’t have to pay more to earn those miles.

Plus, it’s free to join – you just create an account online and start making money with the platform.

In some ways, Rove Miles is similar to Bilt Rewards in that both programs allow you to earn transferable points or miles without opening a credit card.

One of the key differences between Bildt and Rolf Myers, however, is the planned transfer partners. Bilt appears to be more focused on the domestic market, offering 1:1 transfers to programs like American Airlines AAdvantage and World of Hyatt, while Rove Miles offers transfers to more unusual international programs and offers excess revenue on hotel bookings through its portal.

What are the best uses for Rove Miles?

Miles & More recently introduced dynamic pricing for flights operated by Lufthansa, Lufthansa City, SWISS and Austrian Airlines. Unfortunately, you need to have at least 1,500 miles in your account to see real-time rewards, which is a frustrating limitation for members. However, the good news is that the time-saving Seats.aero tool now shows Miles & More availability. You can pay the following prices for flights to Europe operated by Lufthansa:

  • economy: Starting at 4,380 miles, plus $207 one-way taxes, fees and surcharges, but be aware that Miles & More is currently offering a limited-time promotion to score last-minute rewards for just 88 miles (yes, only 88 miles) plus the same $207 deductible
  • premium economy class: From 12,313 miles, plus $498 one-way taxes, fees and surcharges
  • Business: From 62,551 miles, plus $1,045 one-way taxes, fees and surcharges
  • first: From 153,742 miles, plus $1,155 one-way taxes, fees and surcharges

So while carrier surcharges are high for all classes, one of the great benefits of redeeming through Miles & More is the ability to book Lufthansa First Class in advance. Lufthansa typically only offers first-class seats to partners such as Air Canada Aeroplan one or two days before departure.

Please note that Lufthansa’s new Allegris first class cabin cannot be booked using points and miles from any program.

While Seats.aero is a great tool to get started, we recommend checking availability directly with the airline before transferring points. If you are in the United States, please call 1-800-581-6400 and have your Miles & More password, travel dates, applicable airport code and flight number ready. This will help the attendant quickly confirm the availability of the reward.

In addition to transferring your Rove Miles to Lufthansa, here are some other great redemptions:

  • Book United Polaris flights to Europe with Lufthansa Miles & More for 62,500 miles with no surcharges.
  • Transfer to the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program and book a first-class suite or long-haul business class, which is often not available on partner programs.
  • Transfer your Rove Miles to Air France-KLM Flying Blue at a 1:1 price and book business class flights to Europe from 60,000 miles away.
  • Switch to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and book great rewards to London on select dates and routes starting from 6,000 Virgin Points, taking into account carrier taxes and fees. Use Virgin Atlantic’s Award Seat Checker tool to find great deals on inventory.

bottom line

Rove Miles is a growing rewards program you should keep an eye on, given how generous the program is in terms of awarding transferable miles for flights, hotels, and online purchases.

If you have struggled to earn Miles & More in the past, adding Lufthansa Miles & More to Rove Miles can be very useful.

It’s not the cheapest route to every Lufthansa redemption, and the surcharges are hefty, but it’s a convenient new option if you want to book Lufthansa business and first class in advance and earn more than 40 miles per dollar spent on hotel bookings.
