Can companies find where I actually work if it’s not on my resume? Seriously? Don’t you know?
Why People Hate Corporate Recruiters
Someone wrote to me with a question that I thought was great. The question reads, (I want to read) Can companies find where I actually worked on my resume? “
Du! Of course, they can.
So let’s start with the premise that when you fill out the application, you allow them to run a background check. Therefore, they have the ability to check your background.
Where can they watch it? Well, the obvious place is LinkedIn. If they see the termination date, let’s say six months ago and nothing since, they’re curious as to whether you’re still working. In the interview, they may ask you, but are you hiding something in there.

The way they find out is (first) a background check, which includes pulling a credit report. Your credit report will indicate where you are currently earning money because that employer has filed a claim with the credit reporting company.
They can also (it’s easy), it’s easier now than it was a few years ago, but they call your old phone number and ask to talk to you. Someone told them back that he was no longer with us.
“Do you know where he went?” That person told them where you really worked.
“No, I don’t know), but they call another extension, or they call your old boss and ask if they know where you went, and then, all of a sudden, the new employer who’s not on your resume can be exposed.
Knowing whether a company will conduct a background check or check your credit report before employment can go a long way in alleviating your worries about your lies being exposed. It may still come to light in a number of different ways, but I’ll simply say that knowing whether a company is going to ask for a credit report at the end of a job search will go a long way toward solving this problem.
