Ant Hamlyn’s Vibrant Still Lifes Preserve Impermanence – Enormity

Known for his soft flowers and leaves made of polyurethane-coated fabric, often wrapped behind clear acrylic panels, Ant Hamlyn has a sense of humor when it comes to art history.
Paying homage to Western art schools such as void still lifes, he creates textile reliefs adapted to our contemporary condition. From fast food to indoor plants to vibrant bar carts, his work playfully explores themes of indulgence, impermanence, beauty and everyday life.
Until recently, Hamlin had focused primarily on cartoon botanical paintings, and now he has delved further into the still life genre. Pieces such as “Greasy Spoon,” “Shelf Life” and “Drive-Thru” incorporate themes of food and stylish home decor, evoking the quirky snapshots one might see on Instagram, featuring characters who have just appeared.
The work seen here is Moosey’s most recent display, and you can find more of his work on Hamlyn’s website and Instagram.
