Editor’s Note

This is a recurring post, updated regularly with new information and offers.

If you’ve only recently started using AirTags to track your luggage, you may not realize that original AirTag batteries only lasted about a year. Just like you can replace your iPhone’s battery, you can also replace your AirTag’s battery when it dies.

Now you can share your AirTag information directly with multiple airlines to help find lost luggage faster, so ensuring the health of your AirTag battery is more important than ever.

When your battery is running low, Apple will notify you through the FindMy app if you have connected an AirTag in the app. You can also proactively check the battery level within the app by opening the app and identifying your AirTags under the “Items” tab at the bottom. Think of it as just another task on your pre-trip “to-do” list.

Instead of replacing the AirTag itself when needed, you can replace the battery at a lower cost. Then, you can continue to use AirTag normally. According to Apple, you should use a CR2032 3-volt lithium coin battery labeled “Compatible with Apple AirTags.”

Compatible batteries include the Panasonic CR2032 and Energizer CR2032 batteries, both of which are currently available on Amazon. You can also find compatible batteries from Apple at most electronics stores and pharmacies.

bottom line

If your AirTag is close to a year old, we recommend purchasing a pack of batteries so that they are ready for use when needed.

If you can’t find the battery in time or want to completely replace the AirTag, the regular price for a single tag is $29. Alternatively, you can get a four-pack for $99, though we often see AirTags on sale through Amazon.
