“Unspoken” by artist Sophie-Yen Bretez

A new series of works by Paris-based artist Sophie-Yen Bretez explores moments of spatial transformation and temporal overlap. “The Unsaid” represents what Bretz calls “the dramaturgy of the passage.” Using formed canvases and large-scale compositions, she turns everyday objects into symbolic thresholds, guiding the viewer to wander between intimacy and vastness, presence and absence. The changing sky and seasonal horizons coexist with traces of the body – reflections, bite marks, stains – with an unsettling ambiguity. Known for her characters that challenge the traditional male perspective, Breitz imbues objects, landscapes and atmospheres with equal intensity. Her work opens up spaces where vulnerability and strength meet, where the ordinary becomes an emotional landmark.

“The Unsaid Remains Remembered” is currently on display at JD Malat Gallery in Dubai until November 2.
