Chia seed pudding has become one of my favorite breakfasts and snacks, however, sometimes I want the pudding to be a little thicker. When this happens, I like to use yogurt instead of half the milk I normally use.

Not only does it make everything thicker; it also adds protein and is an easy way to make tons of different flavors without having to buy a ton of extra ingredients. Simply use your favorite flavored yogurt to instantly infuse any chia seed pudding with wonderful flavor.

I’ve tried chocolate, lemon, cherry, and blueberry and they all turned out great.

Yogurt chia seed pudding is also a great way to add probiotics to your diet. Probiotics are found naturally in yogurt and are great for gut health, digestion and the immune system.

This is on top of all the great health benefits of chia seeds, making them a nutritional powerhouse for breakfast or snacks. We even flavored chia pudding with unsweetened cocoa powder and had it for dessert.

Can you make chia pudding with yogurt?

Making chia pudding with yogurt is easy, just replace half the liquid with any regular or Greek yogurt.

To make a chia pudding with yogurt, combine 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup yogurt, 2.5 tablespoons chia seeds, and the sweetener of your choice.

Maple syrup, honey, agave, or sugar-free sweetener will all work. You can also add fresh or frozen fruit or vanilla extract for extra flavor.

Can chia seeds be added directly to yogurt?

Chia seeds can be added directly to yogurt before consumption. Mix them into the yogurt with a spoon so they become less dry and can plump up a bit.

The longer you let them sit in the yogurt, the plumper they will become. However, they are safe to eat completely dry on top of yogurt.

Adding chia seeds to yogurt adds fiber, protein, Omega 3, and other important vitamins and minerals.

How long does chia seed pudding keep in the refrigerator?

Chia seed pudding can be refrigerated for up to five days as long as it is kept in an airtight container. This is true for both regular chia pudding and yogurt chia pudding.

It’s important to note that some fruits can become quite mushy after a few days, so you may want to add the fruit before eating rather than during meal prep.

Are chia seeds good for you?

Chia seeds have a ton of health benefits and are considered a superfood by many because of all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals they contain.

First, just one tablespoon of chia seeds contains 20% of the recommended daily amount of fiber, with 5 grams of fiber per tablespoon.

By comparison, a tablespoon of oatmeal contains less than 1 gram of fiber. In addition, chia seeds contain plant protein and Omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial to cardiovascular health, and may also aid digestion and reduce inflammation.

Flavor Creativity

As I mentioned above, one of the best things about making chia pudding with yogurt is that you can add so many different flavors just by switching out different types of yogurt. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Coconut and pineapple: Swap in coconut yogurt and add chopped pineapple on top. Add some shredded coconut or chopped macadamia nuts for bonus points.
  • Mocha: Use coffee-flavored yogurt and top with chocolate chips or chocolate syrup. You can also add some unsweetened cocoa powder to the mixture.
  • Raspberry Lime: Use raspberry flavored yogurt and add some lime zest. This one is perfect for summer and super refreshing.
  • Strawberries and chocolate: Use chocolate flavored yogurt and add chopped strawberries. Or instead, use strawberry yogurt and add chocolate chips.
  • Lemon Cream Pie: Use lemon yogurt and vanilla extract. Top with some crushed graham crackers.
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly: Get inspired by this PB&J yogurt bowl and add peanut butter, fresh fruit preserves, chopped peanuts and fresh berries.
