Answer behavioral interview questions the right way

I’m Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter, and today I want to discuss a mind-bending hedge fund brainteaser with you. So, here comes the problem. The situation is this.

How many dormitories would it take to stack these dormitories from floor to ceiling? Believe it or not, there is logic to this question. I’m not going to get involved now. I just simply say, you present your idea to them and you say to them, okay, my best guess is that floor to ceiling is about 10 feet right now, and then from there, it’s about 12 quarters of an inch.

So, you’re basically saying it takes 144 quarters. Let me make sure I get it right. Assume 12 quarters times 12 inches times 10 feet equals approximately 1,440 quarters.

So, again, you’re guiding them through it. 12 quarter inches equals 12 inches equals 1 foot times 10 feet, which gives us 1,440 quarters. The idea is about the reasoning process.

Some people are confused by questions like this and they want to see how you reason about things. This is Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter. I hope you found this video helpful.
