Strength Exercise Interest Levels – The Garage Gym Experiment

We recently surveyed the community to learn more about their training preferences and interest in different strength sports. The results below highlight how many people train for a specific sport, the overall level of interest in each category and how these numbers have changed compared to last year.

First, how many people train for a specific strength sport? How does it compare to last year?

Less than a third of respondents train for a specific strength sport, but the number is growing. This year, 31% said they do so, up from about 23% previously. While most home gym owners practice fitness or strength training more generally, there is a clear upward trend among those pursuing structured strength exercise goals.

Level of interest in specific strength sports

The results show a wide range of interest levels, highlighting that all of these exercises are relatively niche within the home gym community. Bodybuilding and weightlifting stand out as the clear leaders, with the highest overall participation. Strongman, Olympic weightlifting and grip strength training also received widespread attention, with more than 40% of respondents expressing high or moderate interest.

How does it compare to last year?

Overall, interest levels remain relatively consistent across most strength sports. However, grip strength There were significant jumps – the high rate rose from 3.7% to 12.6%, and the medium rate rose from 19.8% to 42.6%.
