Zero recruiting calls? Why?

By Jeff Altman, Big Game Hunter
I don’t know what I did wrong, but obviously, I messed up something.
Tough Interview Questions: Solve It
I’m Jeff Altman, big game hunter. I am a coach who helps people become more effective in their work environment. This can be job hunting, recruiting, managing and leading teams, and many different things related to the workplace.
Now, the question I get asked is, “I’m trying to change jobs and I’m not getting calls from recruiters. What do I do?” So, I feel like Macaulay Culkin. This is what happened.
And, you know, I know nothing about your background. So, let’s admit it right away. But when I dissected the search, I discovered a few things.
If you haven’t received an interview offer, or if no one has called you, there are a few reasons. Of course, I’m assuming you’re applying for a job. The reason is that your resume sucks.
For some reason, your LinkedIn profile doesn’t match your resume. You are applying for a job that you want but are not qualified for. Your resume doesn’t make it clear enough how you would be a good fit for the position you want the recruiter to contact you for.
I’m going to add a few things based on what I usually say. Your LinkedIn profile is not keyword rich. If a recruiter finds you on a job site or LinkedIn, your resume isn’t keyword-rich enough to entice them to come to you.
These are the basic reasons why you are not getting a call. You’re not communicating to the recruiter (whether it’s a company or a third party) what you can do that is relevant to what their client is looking for. Therefore, your resume must be tailored to each position.
Your LinkedIn profile must display keywords that are attractive to recruiters because they won’t call you because of this. They’re trying to fill a job and make money, right? So, you have to work hard to attract them. You gotta be the honey and let the bears come to you, okay? I’m Jeff Altman.
