What is the best answer to the software professional interview question “Tell me about yourself”
The best way to Google yourself
What are the best answers to interview questions? Tell us about yourself to a software professional. If you know my job, you know that for most people, I’m sure you think the job description you see is accurate. But most of the time it’s not.
So whether you’re a software professional or any kind of professional, the way I recommend starting any interview is to say, hey, thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me. I’m really grateful. You know, I remember the job description, but I want to get your take on the role.
Can you tell me what you think of the job and how I can help? They’ll tell you what they currently think about the job so you know how the job description differs from what you’ve just been told. And then from there, when you answer, tell me about yourself, you start talking in a typical way. I’m out of town now.
I’ve been a developer for four years. For the past two years, I’ve been working at so-and-so, doing this and that. Before this, I had worked for such and such an organization, doing this and that.
But probably the most relevant to my background in this position is my experience, you tell them what company that was, where I worked, and now all you have to do is connect the dots between what they told you they were looking for and what you do. Keep your answers to around 1 minute and 15 seconds, as you want to keep the conversation interactive. You want to keep them engaged because if you talk too long and too often, people will eventually lose focus and think about anything but you.
Again, the typical answer is to start with about 20-25 seconds and then you transition into the important parts, but probably the most relevant thing than my background on the character is my experience and then you connect the dots.
