New data show a sharp drop in tickets over Labor Day: What this means for holiday flights

As we enter the fall of 2025, the trend for lower air tickets is intensifying. As we have been reporting, TPG calls it “summer savings” as aircraft speculation declines year by year during summer travel in 2025.

Our friends at the point path new data shows that during the long Labor Day weekend, when we enter a slower fall period, fares also drop throughout the long Labor Day weekend.

Point Path is a free web browser extension that shows points and miles rewards on Google flights as well as cash fares. Point Path uses conversions of search data to better understand how airlines currently price flights.

We looked at over 100,000 flights, economically priced four-day Labor Day weekend, and search data for international coaches and premium cabins.

Points Path and TPG found that over the long weekend, the average domestic flight ticket price fell 7.44% from 2024 to around $408 by 2025. The international economy’s ticket price fell on average: 8.44% to $859.

Actually, the only category is year-on-year price Increase It is an international advanced economy, with prices rising by more than 4% on average. No wonder more and more airlines are investing in the advanced economy.

The stories of points booking are similar, although overall inconsistent. Data shows that the overall price of domestic points fell 4.46%, while international prices fell 4.83% year-on-year. The cost of the premium economy international ticket usage point also shocked the price trend, although it increased by 1.21% year-on-year.

Just to emphasize some examples:

The average coach ticket at the Harry Reed International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas is $441 this year, compared to about $538 last year, down nearly 18%. Las Vegas has been hit particularly hard by a decline in international demand.

Internationally, while searches for Tokyo-area airports have increased by more than 40%, the average coach ticket price is nearly 13% to $1,226. Prices in international cities are almost the decline in prices at over 20 airports we checked, with only destinations such as Iceland, Costa Rica, Milan and some Canadian airports showing prices rising.

So what does all this data mean to you? This could mean cheap tickets to your Christmas flights.

Usually, we tell people to book domestic flights one to two months in advance and international flights three to five months in advance.

While we usually tell people to stick to these schedules, we’ve seen a lot of last-minute deals this year.

Still, I strongly urge people to start tracking the price of the holiday now – if you see a deal, jump on it.

I’ve written extensive articles on how to save money, but my main tips remain the same:
