The holidays are right around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to start shopping for gifts – so why not earn some extra rewards along the way?
Here’s what you need to know about the deal.
Rakuten and Lululemon 15% Bonus Overview
Rakuten is offering a great holiday deal, and starting in November, you can earn up to 23% cash back at select merchants every day for the first 10 days. Popular activewear brand Lululemon is also part of the sale.
On November 8, Rakuten users who activate the portal and shop at Lululemon will receive 15% cash back or 15 Membership Rewards points for every $1 spent, thanks to a partnership between Rakuten and American Express. If you choose to earn Amex points, the return rate can be as high as 30% based on TPG’s November 2025 valuation.
What is Rakuten?
Rakuten is one of TPG’s favorite online shopping portals, where you can activate a browser extension to get extra rewards when shopping at select retailers.
You can choose to redeem your cash back as a check mailed to you or deposited into your PayPal account. You can also earn American Express Membership Rewards points if you link an eligible American Express card to your Rakuten account.
Whatever form of rewards you receive, they will be deposited quarterly on the following dates:
- February 15
- May 15
- August 15
- November 15

You must have at least $5.01 or 500 points in rewards to redeem, otherwise the rewards will be carried over to the next quarter.

Lululemon deal details
First (and most importantly) you have to click on Lululemon on the Rakuten website or click on the Rakuten browser extension button on the Lululemon website to activate your shopping trip.
Once your shopping experience is activated, shop as normal and proceed to checkout. After completing your purchase, you should receive an email from Rakuten with the subject “You have received cashback”, which indicates that Rakuten has successfully registered your shopping trip and your bonus reward is coming.
What card should I use for this transaction?
If you set your Rakuten earning preferences to Membership Rewards points, you can use any card and still earn American Express points. Since you don’t have to use an American Express card, you can further maximize your earnings. You can use a flat-rate card, such as the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, to earn at least 2 miles per $1 on all purchases.
Or you could choose a card that gives you extra rewards when shopping online, e.g. American Express Blue Cash Everyday® Cardwhich offers 3% cash back on U.S. online retail purchases (up to $6,000 in purchases per category per year; then 1% back).
Cash back is received in the form of Reward Dollars, which can be used as statement points and redeemed at checkout on amazon.com.
If you’re in the market for a new card and really want to get big points, you might also consider the Rakuten American Express Card. You’ll earn 30% cash back or 30 Membership Rewards points for every $1 spent on every Big Deal Reveal purchase (up to $7,000 in total Rakuten purchases during the calendar year).

American Express Platinum Card Lululemon Offer
if you have American Express Platinum Card®you’ll receive up to $75 in quarterly statement credits when you shop at U.S. Lululemon stores (excluding specialty stores) and online (registration required).
If you haven’t used your statement credit for this quarter yet, use it on November 8th because you’ll be able to earn double the rewards when you activate Rakuten.
For example, let’s say you want to purchase my personal favorite item, the Pace Breaker Shorts.
Since these shorts normally cost $68, your credit will fully cover the purchase – but you can also earn 1,020 Amex points or $10.20 cash back through Rakuten.

To sign up for this statement credit, simply log into your American Express account and go to Benefits under the Members section. There, you should see the Lululemon option – select that and sign up. Once signed up, simply use your Platinum Card to make purchases at Lululemon.
