JetBlue launches spring break flights to Florida

Winter may have just begun, but JetBlue is already thinking about spring break.

The airline will launch flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Boston’s Logan International Airport (BOS) to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) in Florida in March.

JetBlue also plans to operate five weekly flights between Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Western New York on March 26.

Nestled in the middle of Florida’s Emerald Coast, part of the Florida Panhandle that stretches from Panama City to Pensacola, VPS is known for its white sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, water sports, golf, and other attractions, making it an ideal destination for adult groups and families.

JetBlue’s VPS service will begin operations on March 5 and will operate seasonally, with one round-trip flight each on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Starting March 26, flights to Rochester will operate on the same dates, but will fly year-round.

The flights are a prime example of JetBlue’s recent shift in strategy to focus on strong East Coast routes with solid leisure demand. Of course, that means focusing on flights between the Northeast and Florida — JetBlue says it’s adding 30 flights to Florida this year, including its first flight to Vero Beach and the resumption of service to Daytona Beach, both of which start next month.

“Florida continues to be a place where JetBlue’s combination of great service and value resonates strongly with travelers,” Dave Jehn, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning and airline partnerships, said in a statement about VPS flights. “By adding Destin-Fort Walton Beach to our map, we are bringing more options to our customers in Boston and New York while opening the door for Emerald Coast residents to easily travel to the Northeast and beyond.”

The Orlando flight is also JetBlue’s first flight from Rochester to Florida. The airline also offers multiple daily flights from the Republic of China to JFK International Airport.
