A skydiver appears to fall from the sun, creating a stunning image – giant

After making six major jumps from a small aircraft, skydiver Gabriel C. Brown completed his mission. Brown was a friend and now one of astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy’s collaborators. Together the pair created a stunning image showing the adventurous subject falling in front of the sun.

McCarthy was known for his incredible patience and planning, which allowed him to capture a series of striking photographs and composites detailing cosmic phenomena. The most recent work, titled “The Fall of Icarus,” details the sun’s churning, fiery surface and the inverted silhouette of his friend. The two spent this past weekend working on the project in Arizona.

Like many of his works, this image is a composite stitched together from a series of high-resolution captured images. McCarthy and Brown had to coordinate the jump and subsequent shots to reveal the latter’s free fall, which they shared on Instagram.

McCarthy has a limited edition copy of The Fall of Icarus in his shop, where you can find more of his work. (via PetaPixel)
