Last-minute strategies for getting a World of Hyatt membership

As the end of the year approaches, it’s a good idea to review your elite status goals and evaluate your progress toward them. World of Hyatt Elite membership is one of the most valuable memberships, so you may want to top up your account if you’re getting close to the next tier.
Here’s a reminder on how to earn Hyatt elite status, and if you’re not quite at the tier you want yet, here’s an overview of how to earn more qualifying stays or base points before the end of the year.
World of Hyatt Status Overview
There are two ways to earn World of Hyatt tiers: qualifying nights or base points. Specifically, here are the Hyatt Elite membership requirements you must meet each calendar year:
- discoveryist: 10 qualifying nights or 25,000 base points
- explorer: 30 qualifying nights or 50,000 base points
- globalist: 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 base points
Once you achieve Hyatt elite status, you will retain it for one year after you qualify, plus an additional two months. Therefore, if you qualify for a specific Hyatt membership in 2025, your membership will continue through February 2027.

Plan a new trip or staycation
Finally, if you need more qualifying nights, another option is to plan a new trip for the required nights. For example, if you plan to stay three nights, consider booking a three-night stay. The accommodation could be a nearby Category 1 Hyatt hotel, or it could be in a destination you’ve always wanted to visit.

Or, if you have stayed at hotels outside of the World of Hyatt program before the end of the year, consider canceling those stays and staying at a World of Hyatt property instead.

If you need a strategy with more basis points
If you’re close to qualifying for a higher level through base points, you’ll have fewer options. After all, you only earn base points when you pay a qualifying stay rate, qualifying incidental charges during your stay, or qualifying non-stay charges.

Specifically, you’ll earn 2.5 base points per $1 of eligible purchases at Hyatt Studios and 5 base points per $1 of eligible purchases at other World of Hyatt properties. Members can earn base points for up to three rooms per stay, as long as they stay in at least one of the rooms.
Therefore, if you need additional Base Points, they can only be earned through qualifying purchases at World of Hyatt.
