“Galaxies Under a Dying Sky” by photographer Francesco Aglieri Rinella

Italian photographer Francesco Aglieri Rinella explores the American Midwest in a long-term documentary project. Rinella comes from a military background and has a deep-rooted passion for storytelling. His work explores America’s landscape, cultural heritage, and the quiet power of everyday life. His practice is rooted in long road trips through rural America, where he documented communities and people often pushed to the margins.

Galaxy Under a Dying Sky blends portraiture, interiors, and open landscapes to capture the resilience, vulnerability, and quiet dignity of a community that is often overlooked in contemporary narratives. Rooted in slow-motion, analogue photography and medium-format film, the project traces the emotional terrain shared across different geographies. It reflects on memory, isolation, perseverance and belonging by exploring how individuals and landscapes respond to change.

Francesco Aglieri Rinella entered our 2025 Booooooom Art & Photography Book Awards and was shortlisted.
