Tripadvisor now has a loyalty program called Tripadvisor Rewards, and on Travel Tuesday (December 2) you can get $50 in event credit just for joining.

Here’s how the Tripadvisor Rewards program works and how you can save $50 or more on your next trip, class, event tickets, or other activities.

Tripadvisor is a platform for travelers to plan and book travel. You can set up an itinerary and add hotels, restaurants or activities that interest you, invite friends to contribute to your itinerary, leave community reviews and more. You can also book hotels and activities directly through Tripadvisor.

Tripadvisor’s new loyalty program, Tripadvisor Rewards, offers members 5% back on stays and experiences in the form of “travel cash.” You can exchange travel cash for cash on hotel stays and activities booked in the Tripadvisor app. It expires one year after acquisition.

You can also earn reward travel cash by being active on Tripadvisor. It’s unclear how much travel cash you can earn through specific activities, but according to the Tripadvisor website, you can earn reward travel cash by “planning trips, saving inspiration, contributing to the community, and more.” We’ll also set up special challenges that require you to do certain things to earn bonus travel cash.

Currently, most features of the Tripadvisor Rewards program, such as earning and redeeming travel cash and accessing member-only offers, are only available in the Tripadvisor app. The app also gives you access to Tripadvisor’s Price Match Guarantee.

Joining the Tripadvisor Rewards program is easy. All you need to do is download the Tripadvisor app and create an account or log in to your existing account and verify your phone number. If you do this on Tuesday, December 2, the $50 event credit will automatically appear in your Tripadvisor rewards section.

How to use your $50 event credit

You have until December 31, 2025 or January 1, 2026 to use the points. It’s only valid once, so if your purchase is less than $50, you’ll lose the remaining points.

For example, Lyndsey Matthews, senior travel editor at TPG, used her points to purchase tickets to the Meow Wolf Santa Fe immersive art installation for an upcoming trip to New Mexico. The total cost is $42.18. Tripadvisor requires a $1 minimum payment for all activity bookings, but her points were enough to cover the rest of the purchase and she would give away the remaining $9 or so.

Additionally, Tripadvisor is running a promotion right now: through December 31st, you can save 25% on select bookings with the code “BOOK25” for up to $25 off, and you can stack this offer with your event points.

I had my eye on a snowshoeing activity for two in Colorado, and when I went to checkout, I was able to save a total of $75 by using the discount code and my $50 credit.

But remember, the $50 event credit can only be applied within the app.

bottom line

If you ever use Tripadvisor to plan or book travel, you’ll want to join the Tripadvisor Rewards program to earn 5% travel cash on future bookings and receive exclusive member-only offers. Even if you’ve never used Tripadvisor, it’s worth joining the app to get a $50 credit toward tours, tickets, and more.

Use your $50 event credit before the end of the year and don’t forget to stack up with code “BOOK25.”
