JetBlue announces seven route expansions, causing a stir in San Juan

JetBlue Airways is making a big push into Puerto Rico.
The New York-based airline announced Wednesday a significant expansion of its route map from San Juan, with new flights to five cities in the continental United States early next year.
Prior to this, JetBlue has already expanded its footprint in the Puerto Rico capital in 2025.
The airline is operating 16% more flights this year from San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) than a year ago, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.
This growth will continue in 2026 as the airline launches new SJU flights to Florida, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast.
“Puerto Rico has shaped JetBlue’s identity for more than two decades,” JetBlue President Marty St. George said in a statement announcing the news. “Our newest routes only deepen our commitment to the islands and communities that have been part of the JetBlue story since 2002.”

“We have a co-branded credit card in Puerto Rico and we have a very solid TrueBlue customer base,” St. George said in an interview with TPG last year. “Puerto Rico is an extremely important market for us and a profitable market for us.”
2 new routes added
In addition to the five new routes from San Juan, JetBlue has announced it will launch two additional U.S. routes in March.
The airline will add Buffalo flights to Fort Myers Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) on March 26.
Starting March 5, the airline will launch flights from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR), further fueling its rapid growth in South Florida.
